I have a commercial tenant whom I have had for about 16 years now. They pay not quite six figures annually. They have expanded from high quality ice cream, to fudge to several lines of upper end chocolates. I don't rent them their retail location rather a warehouse where they run a fund raising arm of the business for hundreds of non-profit businesses in a two hundred mile circle form here.

The business owner is 62 years old and runs a tight ship. The business itself is going to turn 25 years old in August. I am wondering what type of gift or recognition is in order. Any ideas?

Just ideas - probably bad ones:

A plaque or something similar to commemorate the anniversary and thanking him for his loyalty.

A full page ad in the local paper commeorating the anniversary including photos from the early days.

If you know the owner well enough to know if he has a favorite spirit for imbibement, a bottle of the finest available. --68.1.xxx.xxx

Ken,

I guess I am strange like that - if someone gives me more than a million dollars, I think a token of appreciation is in order.

If anyone out there wants a wall plaque, I can arrange that I suppose, ahhhh with your help and seven figure contribution --24.101.xxx.xxx

I agree with Tims' idea as well. It not only shows your appreciation, but helps support his business. You may want to verify it with him prior to publishing however. --135.134.xx.xx

The newspaper idea is good or put something on Facebook about the occasion. --169.150.xxx.xx

Whatever you do, don't buy him an ice cream.

Years ago my wife worked for a jewelry store, then she moved on to manage a balloon shop that finally started supplying flowers.

She doesn't like any of those things now. I love it. I can't get her the wrong thing if I don't get her anything. --107.147.xx.xx

Agree something to put on the wall of 25 years of business... Make up a blue ribbon award or some theme on sweets or sugar. Others will comment on it and it will boost his pride of accomplishments --172.59.xxx.x

Based on some of your inputs , I have something to chew on. I am not sure if newspaper is the best route to go as it is sorta dying medium. But along those lines, maybe having a live local radio broadcast might be a parallel idea. Couple that with a plaque. I am thinking along the same lines, a way to boost his business would be good business for me. I will not be around for his 50th, nor will Sean be, so he should be living up this milestone. --24.101.xxx.xxx

I like Just Tim's idea of an ad. You could purchase a facebook/meta one for just your local area. It would help publicize their business while wishing your congratulatory wishes. You write well and could do the copy. You can use your camera to take a nice picture of the business and edit it to add text before posting it to fb.

Congratulations finding a winner of a tenant. --73.162.x.xxx

You could also contact your city's local Chamber of Commerce office, pitching the praises of your tenant's business and how it's helped the community. The office could present a plaque to recognize your tenant. Best of luck. --73.162.x.xxx

Good call on that ken. Hadn't considered it that way.

Also for Ray, you have to be around for his 50th as we need your input and I am not planning to be out of it in 25 years. --107.147.xx.xx

Small potatoes - They help do fund raising for non-profits. The cost of goods to produce one pound of fudge is about $3. They whole one pound packages to non-profits for $7. The non-profits sell these as fund raisers for $12 a pound.

He ships out van loads of fudge a five time a week. I think to myself that Shawn is single handedly causing diabetes for thousands of people annually. But I know a solid business when I see it. He should get the American Dental Association along with the Diabetes Association to sponsor him. All I know is Walter Grumbly is employed doing "Da Diabetes" commercials thanks to people like my tenant.

In a perfect world, I would to see him expand to a second retail location but that isn't easy since he has an upper end product. --24.101.xxx.xxx
