Well most want to save money by buying a used vehicle where now what is happening here is a stolen vehicle the VIN number is changed which is 17 digit number to identify vehicle where criminals here are finding more difficult to ship overseas like Africa. A VIN is removed from a vehicle that is written off in accident or flood then placed on stolen vehicle. It is important to own a automotive scanning tool to verify VIN in ECU is the same as VIN on door panel or windshield. Provinces and state do not share information where criminals take a advantage of this lack of sharing information. Some rental housing providers see better value in purchasing a used vehicle as depreciation on a three year is sometimes half of a new vehicle. A person found out when F 150 was in accident where they could order parts where the VIN was in Utah. The insurance company would not insure where fortunately bought from a Ford dealer. A person convicted here of selling stolen vehicles was out in bail the same day. So if the price sounds to good to be true then that will not be a saving.

A title with salvage coding would be a vehicle in a crash that required 3 corners to be replaced, flooding does not have a code I am aware of, this time of year trees crush car roofs resulting in a vehicle reaching total insurance status. good source of parts for classic restoration. --184.59.xxx.xx |

I wonder how much more difficult it is to match the numbers (engine, transmission, ect..) on a newer vehicle vs. an older one. My old truck has the vin stamped on the frame. --76.129.xxx.xx |

My wife has a Dodge Charger that was totaled and repaired before we bought it -- has a salvage title. We love it and got it cheap.
That being said, we took it in one day for a recall notice and things go all weird. After a lot of confusion, we finally figured out that the driver's side door had been completely replaced -- and they were reading the VIN off of that! They switched to the VIN on the dash instead and got it all figured out. Then we scribbled out the door VIN with a marker so that mistake never happened again. :)
