If you are thinking of an electronic lock for your rentals my experience with the Schlage Encode has been good.

Simple install, simple phone app (Apple and android)

WiFi enabled (you don't need Alexa or any other extra thing)

You can see on your phone if it is locked or unlocked

You can remotely lock or unlock it (let's say for a repair person) via your phone

You can program codes for guests or workers - permanent or temporary (short term rentals!!!!)

You can program codes that expire at certain times or are available only at certain times.

There is an audit trail. You can see who is accessing the unit and when.

You can get notification when it is accessed.

It has a physical key for just in case (which you have keyed to a master key if you want)

Cons

The bolt must freely enter the jam. You must have it aligned - it can not bind!

It will work without Wi-Fi with just the master codes (two are included) but it it works better with the Wi-Fi and the app.

I am planning to use touchpad locks when my MTR reno is done.

The remote functions sound very enticing : ).

My friend did not listen to my reasoning, therefor he purchased a new garage door opener with back up battery, smart phone WiFi ready and Auto Vehicle connection. This was for his new rental, vacant with no valuables inside.

So his first trip to a fancy eatery, he did valley parking. They cloned his auto vehicle garage code.

When he used his smart phone to open up the garage door, a neighbor with a decoder cloned his opener code.

Each of these two people went into the vacant rental and spray painted, "I was here"!

My friend got the message. Like with Simple Safe Alarm Systems, any of them of these things can be hacked.

I've had years of success using LockState's software, website, and hardware locks. They're made for landlords and integrate into many reservation systems. The LockState software is compatible with other brands of locks but I don't know if you lose features.

I like being able to configure each lock on the app, after its initial install. They use WiFi so no additional devices needed like zigbee, etc. And I can assign different levels of access. I can create a group that controls certain locks,and other groups that can control others.
