NYC's worst landlord 'is punched in the face after arriving at Rikers Island to begin 60 day sentence for making tenants live in rat and roach-infested hellhole apartments
Daniel Ohebshalom, known as a 'slumlord,' for forcing his tenants to live in appalling squalor, was hospitalized after the attack and might have broken facial bones.
The assault happened in the intake area of the Eric M. Taylor Center around 12:15 p.m. on Friday.
On the previous day, Ohebshalom had turned himself in to authorities after they had issued a warrant for his arrest.
Ohebshalom had reportedly failed to perform hundreds of court-mandated repairs on his Manhattan properties.
After years of vainly trying to slap the slumlord with fines, the city's Department of Housing Preservation and Development decided to ratchet up the pressure and secured an arrest warrant for Ohebshalom.

Regardless of the rest of the story, nobody forces tenants to live with a rat infestation. --24.152.xxx.xx |

Just like when I listen in at court and the evicted tenant says how bad the place was when they moved in. Then why did you move in?
But this story will be used to bring about more fair practices for tenants which will hurt everyone in the end. --107.147.xx.xx |

Instead of defending a slumlord at least admit that they exist and everything they don't do to make housing safe happens, after all they Are a slumlord. Also consider when tenants are poor they have few to no options, are we renting to them, no. So if it's a choice between an apt where toilet water rains on you everytime the toilet above is flushed and sleeping on the street, that's where they are at. This is how it has always been in the city, and worse. There were no consequences for slumlords. And then all the righteous politicians can point fingers at lls and lump us together. Nothing fake about this old news. --67.240.xx.xx |

Is the ethical thing to do is make the place habitable. But that means increasing rents Potatoes. So making the poor become homeless be better than living in squalor?
It is a tough situation --24.101.xxx.xxx |
