Interesting article. DOJ is going after Realpage and several PM's and owners who use their services. They are claiming what they are doing is "algorithmic price fixing" by using the software to analyze the supply/demand trends in establish prices for vacancies. I personally don't see how this is any different from most other industries. It's a well known fact that MLS uses data to establish recommended price, airlines, hotels, and hundreds of other industries. But since we don't have a strong trade group to push on the politics we can be made out as the bad guys once again. Your tax dollars hard at work.

Yet when Sec 8 uses the same tools to "fix" how much rent they will pay, or when Govt authorities "fix" the price of rent via rent control .... all is well and good!

What about the insurance industry that does the same thing. What about the credit bureaus what about the finance industry.

All of these industries share private information to come to there pricing. How is realpage any different.

I alwase look at what my competitors are charging (market rate) to determine my prices. Some times I even talk to them to see what their opinion is.
