Anyone know of a good medicine cabinet that won't delaminate or otherwise look terrible in a few years after being in the moist environment of a small bathroom. This new coated compressed wood product stuff I tried from both orange and blue box stores is garbage. The least little nick in the coating or even the seams allows moisture in and it de-laminates.

Lots of tenants like to turn the bathroom into a sauna and it damages more than just your cabinet. Put in a vent fan and wire it to the light fixture so it's on whenever the light is on. --73.2.xx.xx |

We have those up. Just a framed mirror from Home goods store. Replace when necessary. Adds the glamours look too --172.59.xxx.xx |

Home Depot sells a medicine cabinet with a beveled mirror door and a white plastic body with clear plastic shelves that is pretty sturdy and looks better than you would think. It's not much money and cleans up easily. --73.2.xx.xx |

RB No, no, no to the "over the john" cabinets. You do not want them storing items over top of the toilet because it is only a matter of time before one of the items is IN the toilet and you are pulling up and maybe even replacing the toilet. --73.141.xxx.xxx |

I 've gotten a steel one at ReStore, painted the inside with primer for rusty metal, then white Rustoleum. Ordered new tempered glass shelves from a glass store.

Instead of a medicine cabinet, how about a mirror and "custom" shelves built into the wall. Use PVC "wood" to frame a box recessed between the studs. Let it protrude from the wall a couple inches, for a nice look. Trim between box & drywall with PVC quarter-round.
Could be one tall box with adjustable shelves, or smaller ones at different heights, flanking the mirror.
I also agree with Don (PA) --68.229.xxx.xxx |

For the price they charge for that junk, you can build your own out of cedar or PVC with glass shelves. --76.129.xxx.xx |

DJ, I like that idea. Easy to clean. If they leave stuff in there they can't say they forgot.
Everybody walking in would be all up their business tho. Can't hide the meds that way. --107.147.xx.xx |

Thanks for the ideas. There is already a fan. Many mirrors seem to delaminate these days too. I think I will try the plastic from HD. --96.245.xxx.xxx |

Is that fan wired in to where it automatically comes on when the light is turned on?
Also, it may be that the tenants are not leaving the door open when not in use. --76.129.xxx.xx |

HD has a replacement bathroom switch with a built-in humidity sensor and timer. Turns the fan on when it senses humidity.

Thanks Scott. I put that on my list to look at. Heck might put one in my master as the wife doesn't keep the fan running as long as I think she should. Well, except when she just forgets to turn the fan off, which bugs me almost more. --107.147.xx.xx |

Ah, Zero, for your own house, get the switch that has push buttons with times on it. Six times at the top of the switch, then a large botton on the bottom for On/ Off. The times are: 1, 5, 10, 20, 30, 60. We use 30 for a shower. Turns off by itself when time is up.
We use the decora switches, easier on my hands, so the timer switch matches the rectangular shape of the decora switches. Also have a two-button switch for heat lamp and night light. Sometimes I wish we had the timers for the heat lamp...but..then again.. spouse gets to come in and turn the heater off for the one who is taking a soak in the tub. Hubba, hubba! --72.135.xxx.xx |

Busy, that switch sounds even better for my place.
With the humidity sensor it has to reach the switch before it kicks on. That could be an issue when the switch is across the room.
Then again anything is better than not running the fan at all. --107.147.xx.xx |
