Now that elections are around the corner, can I as a landlord post my preferred candidate's names or mail those preferences to my tenants? As landlords, the Constitution gives us the right to free speech. Why are we not utilizing the law(s) to our advantage?

Because it's totally inappropriate and could be seen as coercive. "Don't vote my way and you could lose your home..."
Who someone votes for is no one's business. If you choose to advertise it, fine, but push it on your tenants and I bet it somehow doesn't seem like FREE speech to them. --173.28.xx.xxx |

What happens when a election sign was put up by Progressive Conservatives provincial and federal the sign is ripped down as some on street will vote for Fiberals and New Democratic Socialist Party where absolutely would never vote for a leftest party. Tenants in Federal, Provincial and Municipal have much percentage who vote where most simply do not care who forms the government. --207.236.xxx.xxx |

I do not talk religion or politics with my tenants. It is a solid no-win scenario.
Had one tenant put a sign in the yard. I am not all that happy about signs either. Turns out it was a relative of her family. Ugg, I didn't press the issue.
I have considered putting 'no signage allowed' in the lease. So far I deal with it on a case by case basis. --107.147.xx.xx |

I have let my renters know that our California prop 19 for their sake needs to be overturned. When their landlord and his spouse pass away, our son won’t be able to take over the properties because all the property taxes will get stepped up and make the rents unaffordable. Taxes will increases $600 to $900 per month. --146.70.xxx.xx |

The only time I would go against a specific politician would be if one candidate was for a rental inspection. In such cases, I let the tenant know that the specific candidate wants to allow a stranger to the tenant inside the tenants home to inspect the house and tenants life style. I will then ask the tenant, if they support having such a plan in place vote for XXXXXX, if however they like having more privacy and trusting my judgement instead - then they can support candidate YYYYY --24.101.xxx.xxx |

My lease is clear: No signs, posters visible from the street.
My town was recently overrun with "No hate", "Don't do drugs", "Love spoken here" social signs. Add a gazillion political signs and nobody could notice my FOR RENT signs!
I HAVE told residents about the recent school bond vote would raise their taxes and thus the rent BUT they don't vote and they believe *I* pay the taxes so they did not care.
PA and OH are swing states, a final determiner of our presidental elections so PLEASE vote for conservative govt to get off our backs!
A friend lost a local election by 2! votes so yes, your vote counts. Or as they say - if you don't vote you cannot complain.

Brad, I concur about all the signs.
Back before every house was listed on the internet I would drive around looking for FSBO signs.
Then the political signs took over. Couldn't see through them to find a sale sign. Sometimes it got to the point where I would just wait until after the election when they were supposed to be removed. --107.147.xx.xx |
