This is new to me.
6 year old grandson is in a school play and invited us to come.
In order to enter the school building (not volunteering or working) we must pay $12.99 each and submit info for a background check.
When we arrive they will take our picture to match to our background check.
I've had plenty of background checks between Boy Scouts and teaching Sunday School, but this seems a bit excessive to sit on a folding chair in the gym for 30 minutes.
And people think our Rental Application is too intrusive!
Has anyone else run into this?

My DIL works at a school and people must present photo ID to get in, which doesn't seem like a terrible rule. And she said half the parents show up without one and get mad when she won't let them in.

I will also ask, is this a public school?
How could they possibly keep you from entering a public school?
Why would they keep family from watching the kids at a school event?
As Ken noted, taxes should pay for that.
Could you ask the school for a copy of their budget and balance sheets?
If you told them to shove it and went in and watched the kid wrestle, what would happen?
Would they call the police?
Would the police be able to do anything on public school property?
Could the school be sued?
What did you say to them?
I like the fact NE teaches his own kids and took them out of the school system. I think I would do the same if I had kids.

That's crazy. Most of the schools her are set up where you turn left to go to the cafeteria and gym or turn right to go to the classrooms. You only need the background check if you are going right into the classrooms hallway (IE: to volunteer). I get that because you don't want just any pedaphile roming around the classroom halls. But why the cafeteria? Shoot, here they rent out the cafeteria and gym after school hours, do you have to do a background check for that? --209.205.xxx.xx |

I was told today it's a new state law. We were approved (phew!) and printed our bar coded name tags. Warned to arrive early for our mugshot because they expect many Grandparents in line.
Son20,000 and his wife also had to be screened to enter the building.
Most school shewters are students with no background checks.
