Busted for extortion.

Not surprising. the HA I used to work for in upstate was corrupt as the day is long.

Mapleaf18, thanks for sharing.

No matter which country the housing authority has very bad reputation where here they renamed community housing. This is housing as a last resort here where no credit checks are done. The building inspectors will not inspect as one government entity is not going to prosecute another government entity. It is known when they make purchases they not interest in quality or best price where only interested in lining their own pockets by getting large kick backs.

The one I used to deal with was inept at best. Sucking funds from the gov as best they could.

Just got another letter from them saying I owe money for over payment.

Third time I got the same letter. It is concerning a tenant I let go in 2019.

Left yet another VM stating what's what. See if they keep it up.

Didn't read the article but I can see all that money floating around not being tracked.

I would rather the entire HA system be re-vamped. I hate paying for part of other people's rents. (I know it isn't a blip on my radar, just the thought behind it) --107.147.xx.xx

Revamped or disbanded?

I see a legitimate need for some of the housing assistance. There are people that actually need it instead of wanting it because it's easy.

Unfortunately I also found that only a couple of the assistance getters I had as tenants actually needed a little boost.

Thus the reason I gave up on S8 and any assistance program at all. If I come across someone in dire need I will decide if I want to help or not. --107.147.xx.xx

Much of it was for awarding no-bid contracts and has been happening over 10+ years. How many higher level officials were promoted from this batch? I suspect the corruption runs much deeper than just the housing authority in this one city. I hope they keep peeling that onion and putting them all in jail.

Case in point why Government involvement in housing is not a good thing.

Anyone ever deal with RAFT? Pays back rent to keep from evictions (Oh we have tried,..have spent 18 k so far to get rid of them, first protected by COVID,..then they applied to RAFT, can't evict once they do that,So almost 3 years later they are still there. So RAFT did pay some of all that arrears. About 34 K,.they still owe about 16K..

he lawyer is recommend by the local LL assoc as the best around.

So this family claims that they are escrowing their rent (said so in the first court and in mediation which is mandatory here) I believe under oath,... However they won't tell us where .

So they make 700-800 a week in income,..they have purchased a number of expensive toys.

Anyway we asked RAFT how they were approved to pay anything

much less this much with their income.

The Raft people said,.".Oh well we just take their word that they need it, We don't have the resources to really check"

`Thank you US taxpayer.

Another tenant ,a neighbor said The woman of the couple has a book, something like .how to screw your LL,and thinks that it should be required reading of all tenants and offered to lend it to her.

.There are several of similar books available,..Suggest you get them to see how a tenant can do this. It has defenses against LL's and lawyers, and the legal system.I understand from reading the online reviews of tenants, they have been very useful. Good for LL's to also know.printed by Under ground press as one source..

Should be disbanded, who decided that we should have to pay someone way because they cant or wont hussle? get rid of food stamps etc. hunger was created for a reason, get your behind out there and produce,if someone truly cant that is the families or churches responsibility --74.77.xx.xx

A better option is to get the management at the community government housing authority then let private companies run where there will be efficiency methods along with a lot of capital work will be done instead of waiting for the heating or hot water system fail in building. They are making $200,000 plus where they more from kick backs. My GF lives in a condominium where seen a lot of things that do not benefit the people who live there. I like living in house although more work where you determine what gets done along with have complete control.
