In the past Myob was my hero for information on garnishments.
Apparently MYOB has gone somewhere.
One post MYOB said that he had contacted around 25 banks in his area attempting to find and receive the judgment against a tenant.
OK so here is my question.
Does a Navy Federal Credit Union work the same as a regular bank when trying to collect a judgment.
Story. My tenant is retired military (Navy I think) and banks with the Navy Federal Credit Union.
If I take him to court, win a judgment, can I garnishment his account in the Credit union.
PS I have a copy of one of his checks with numbers at the bottom of the check. I assume they are what we think of as a routing number and account number.
Any info from anyone is welcome --173.187.xxx.xx |

Mike - yes, it works the same. You just need to find out who to serve the garnishment paperwork to. --68.1.xxx.xx |

Mike MO 2 of our largest catch's came from credit unions. People think there safe--- there not.
For our state you can't garnish retirement or SSI and the like.
We just blanketed someone at 50 locations. Think it hit because he left a REAL nasty message on my machine. Will post if it hits with $$$. Hey his reaction was kinda getting paid! --108.239.xx.xx |

I'm going to guess negative on this but I have a guy who gets 600 a week from Army discharge, his wife works a job,
They owe a lot of COVID arrears,..any chance of a garnishment on them? --73.159.xxx.xxx |

Mark- not sure about the army income but certaintly if the wife has a job you should be able to garnishee hat income.get a judgment first then pursue the garnishment --73.177.xxx.xx |

Mark, get 'em before they file bankruptcy. That's how my first tenant got out of last month's rent. He divorced so she wasn't on the bankruptcy, but she's a ne'er do well. --64.246.xxx.xxx |

Always get the garnishment on the books.
Time is on your side. Keep it active with the sheriff.

Razorback You just need to find out who to serve the garnishment paperwork to.
Do you mean to say that any bank employee won’t do? Bank president? --149.76.xxx.x |

Sisco - You generally have to serve the registered agent of a corporation. If a bank has locations in the state, you should be able to find that info from the SOS office. --68.1.xxx.xx |

Let me add that you may get a response by serving someone else at the bank, but if you want the court to have the ability to compel the bank to respond, you will likely have to serve the registered agent, or other appropriate person as designated by your state. --68.1.xxx.xx |

Yes the rental is in SW MO about 50 miles west of Springfield MO.
Thanks for your offer to help.
However, before I can do the garnishment I will have to do all the othe thangs required of us landlords.
This will take some time.
Again. THANKS

Mike anything worth while takes time. Document what you do and time frames needed to comply. Use it as your template for future garnishment. Like a sturdy cookie cutter it will last and give great results.
I get frustrated when my guy gets bogged down with paper work.
UNTIL the checks start rolling in. 8500. 700, 900. Then you say man oh man at least I'm getting something back for the damages and missed rent from these X tenants.

I do not think you can garnish retirement pay. Social Security or any retirement?! Federal law. Is his income all retirement income? Check it out. --99.191.xxx.xx |
