Jason, I truly do not mean to sound harsh, but your grammar has mistakes in all four sentences. Yes, its been that kind of day.

1. "guys/gals." "gals and guys" or just write "landlords"

2. It should be "their" and not "there" when stating something

you own.

3. "Me and my wife?" It should be "My wife and I."

4. Change "...out my phone and check..." to "...out my phone

to check..."

We started out calling places by streets, then we ended up with places on same-name streets in different towns. So we switched to house numbers - and ended up with several same house numbers. So now we sort of combine house number with street initial...and I call houses by different names than DH does (he still uses street names mostly) so we do confuse ourselves sometimes.

I have found offers on places that I had forgotten we offered on. But haven't yet forgotten if we own a place or not. --50.82.xxx.xxx

I also do a lot of rehab work in my dreams and wake exhausted!

We go by house numbers but sometimes I have to look them up to remember which street so I know the house!

We also have nicknames for many but the billing and accounting is by the house number.

Had a huge panic attack about a year after our last growth/buying spurt. It was not uncommon for us to have 2 or 3 houses lined up back to back waiting on remodels from purchasing them. As soon as my guys got done with one they would move right over to the next one.

Got my property tax bills and there was one I didn’t recognize. First thought was oh crap we forgot about a house we bought and it’s just been sitting there for who know how long. There was no address on the tax bill just the parcel ID# (we have several like that).

So I called the county assessors office and asked them what the physical address of this ID# was. It was right next to one of our purchases about 2 years before. Thought to myself dang it was one of our side by side deals that I forgot about the second house next door.

After my initial panic I looked and saw the property tax amount was only $95 for the year. Then it dawned on me that it was the empty lot thy went along with the house we owned. --24.245.xx.xxx

We started off naming each property by a nickname. D1, D2, etc. It was an inside joke that stood for Dump 1, Dump 2, etc. I used to buy the worst place on the block. Then I would rehab it and start renting.

Then we sold the 1st one. I wanted to put a new purchase in that slot, but alas I was out voted and D1 is just a memory. Then we started using other initials for different towns.

When I get a receipt I tag it with the nicknamed house. Helps to keep me up on what goes where.

Main reason to keep the funny names going is the fact that I have keys for all the places in a book in my truck. The tags on each key is the nickname for the house. That way if someone swipes my keys they don't know the addresses.

One of my fears is someone getting all the keys and me having to rekey all the places at one time.

I still rekey myself, no LL Locks yet. --107.147.xx.xxx

To myob GA,

Your wrong. Do you lower your rental standards to below "Landlord 101?" Would a landlord lower the quality of their application and lease with poor grammar?

There is a decline in the intelligence and civility in our world today beginning with poor parenting and grade school. Lack of basic grammar, which is, supposedly, learned at home and in grade school is a symptom of this disease.

One should not lower one's standards, but strive to improve them.

I can't proofread my own writing... online or when typing a paper. Sometimes when writing by hand I can.

Btw, Rick: "Yes, its been that kind of day."

Should be "Yes, it's been that kind of day."

its is a possessive pronoun

it's is the contraction of either "it is" or "it has"

Also: "One should not lower one's standards, but strive to improve them."

Should be: "One should not lower one's standards but strive to improve them."

You have a comma splice after "standards". A comma should only be used before the coordinating conjunction "but" when there are two independent clauses being join.

Or if you prefer: "One should not lower one's standards, but one should strive to improve them.

You'd need a subject (one) to make a independent clause and a second helping verb (should) to have sentence structure parallelism.

P.S. I do sometimes forget the address numbers on properties we own, or I will mix them up on occasion. Example: I have two properties that are one street apart: 3126 and 3128. I've flipped those two numbers on occasion.

P.P.S. My apologies in advance for my own atrocious grammar and spelling.

While I strive for good grammar and spelling, I'm far from perfect. I don't see the benefit of public shaming someone we don't know well. I'll admit that some posts I see here are so hard to read due to the poor spelling and grammar that I can't even form a response, but I do my best to help people regardless. I'm a touch typist so I can type fairly fast with minimal mistakes, but many people have never been trained typing and therefore make more mistakes and taking the time to correct all of them would be onerous.

In the spirit of humor, there is a phrase I use (I didn't invent it) when the grammar is so horrible I can't understand what the person is trying to say...

"Godzilla had a stroke trying to read this and died" LOL

As for naming properties, we had so few that we were able to name them by their street. However, we had two on one street...so we named one of those the "Kroger house" because it was near the Kroger grocery store lol. --99.92.xxx.xxx

This is hilarious!

I am also OCD about grammar. But sometimes I slip up and miss something that speech-to-text does wrong, and subsequently send the text before checking it.

One thing that I hear or read frequently (even from JOURNALISTS) that nearly drives me up the wall is the incorrect use of "there's" when it should be "there ARE" or even "there're"....

Here's an example of the other most annoying (to me) grammar mistake that I often hear or read in the media: "Doctors breaking the law could face up to two years in prison and lose their medical license." Oh, really? Do all the doctors share the same medical license? It should be "licenses".... :-(

I remember "life" being used when it should be "lives".... "People who engage in certain bad habits will ruin their life." I don't think they all have the same life! It should be: "People who engage in certain bad habits will ruin their LIVES."

Forgive those of us who can't help ourselves! To us, it's like hearing nails being dragged across a chalkboard. I think it's pretty much an addiction. --71.246.xxx.xxx
