A great deal of effort goes into getting a business name out onto the web. The investment of time pays huge dividends with leads routinely calling me. I get about eight calls each week for a 41 unit that I have in the neighboring county.

That sounds awesome doesn't it?

Well how does un-Do it? I sold the place a few years ago. I a still getting calls asking me about these awesome apartments. I have notified google and it disappears for a week and then it comes back. The search engine gathers up too much info. My guess is the meta crawler I was using before (rentlinx) fed it out to multiple sites and google is finding it on the other sites.

I am not an IT guy. Any ideas?

Where does it show up? Is it a website?

Tell us what to Google so we can see it, then I can weigh in. If it's something you have access to like a web page, then change the phone number to a bogus number. --99.92.xxx.xxx

If it were easy enough to know what key words THEY were using to gather info. Instead, I just get folks who will call me up say that they found add online for the place and are calling me.

Since I typically don't answer the phone all that often, finding out what website is problematic. In the past, apartments dot com had adds and I was able to stop that and get the new owner to have an add instead. --24.101.xxx.xxx

When the biz is sold wouldn't you sell the phone number with it??

My personal number is NO WHERE associated with the biz number. --198.168.xx.xxx

OHHHH, I see...they call you but don't say where they got the number. OK.

Can't you just Google a bunch of terms yourself and see if your number comes up? Then you could attack the root cause. Maybe some of them get your number from a previous applicant or something...no way to prevent that. --99.92.xxx.xxx

Usually MLS feeds are fed into zillow, realtor, and others. Google is just reacting to what everyone else is reporting. So yes, it's hard to change. Took 2 years for us to get google maps to update and send traffic to the front gate instead of the back gate which is homeowner only. It's really scary how few people can read a map, or think for that matter. --108.69.xxx.xxx

I have contacted some rental listing websites to remove my property and phone number. Many such places find listings online and include them in their own websites. I would port my number to Google voice and most people will hangup when they hear the greeting and not leave a message. Google the previous property addresses and see who is showing that as available, then contact them to remove. --73.174.xxx.x

Tried escalating for many years to Zillow. But info and old advertisings always return to search engines. --65.60.xxx.xxx

RayRay,

Same thing is happening to me. When they type in my company Website URL they often get info from years ago. I think it has something to do with their computer Keeping a cookie or some thing from when they logged in years ago.

Yes keep chasing Mr Google.

Meanwhile, do you have a website with this apt? Can you repost to contact the new owner?

Maybe do a review of the apt and show the new owner? SOMETHING that will pop up as a fresh post on Google search.
