In a small city where i bought the 4 unit and 2 unit recently sometime in the last year the city hired out trash pickup,the trucks pick up the cans directly into the truck so they are specific cans and every unit was given a can.Sometime friday night someone stopped and stole all 4 cans,apparantly they cost $120 each.I have a dumpster there to clean out basement,attic and garage so i think that will stay there awhile till my sale happens.I am not paying $480 for garbage cans to have them stolen again. apparantly there is now a black market for garbage cans in this city --74.77.xx.xx |

That's awful. Good use of the dumpster. So I had four yellow recycling cans a few years ago and my renter neighbor had one. He felt that was too entitled or supremacist and stole one of my four. The only way to get them is to go to a local office and beg for one and the woman there refuses to give them out. So I painted big numbers on the three left and hold them together with duct tape as they are now all busted up and old.

The town I live in switched to that but the town purchased 2 cans per residence from the trash company and they were delivered town wide so we do not have theft of them. If the city my rentals are in switches to this vs bag and tag, I could see problems. --75.67.xxx.xxx |

This sounds a bit like the shopping cart story, overnight someone made away with 35-40 carts outside the store - I saw 2 at a fast food lot next door - when I got closer I saw they were with the handles down so I went and pulled 1 away thinking I could walk with it to the store - this was a homeless person hut and they were not happy I left with the cart. They were asleep as I walked away briskly with the cart in the street. --76.190.xxx.xxx |

Most all of the towns around here have trash collection. 90 gallon totes on wheels.
One city told me they have had problems with people stealing the totes. They make the resident file a theft report with the police and give you another one.
Nobody seems to charge for new totes. Getting one repaired is a pain, but it is manageable.
When I have a small rehab I usually load my truck up the day before pick-up and make sure all the totes are filled. Saves me from having to get a small dumpster or haul things to the dump.
I can't imagine having to pay for the new totes along with what they charge for monthly collections. --107.147.xx.xxx |

Had a tenant at a duplex in a so-so area of town report her cart has gone missing 3 x. She's not the type who would make up a story like that. Seems to be a trend. I wonder what one does with empty, dirty trash carts to make them such a hot item? --184.4.xx.xxx |
