Dear Landlords, I have an older double wide mobile home. The electrical outlet box for the back bedroom and bathroom (rear of home) has apparently blown and no power to those 2 rooms. The other areas all fine. However, the electrician stated he cannot locate the outlet box and is most likely buried under spray foam insulation below / behind the trailer skirting. What if any ideas are best option? Try to dig out the old spray foam insulation (which could be like finding a needle in a haystack)? New wiring? --172.56.xxx.xx

can you please explain more? no power at any outlets? Don 't you have a fuse box? you know where the main is located. I don't deal with double wide's and wiring but no electric box connection should EVER be buried. EVER and this is why. --108.239.xx.xx

Since one of your rooms without power is a bathroom, have you checked the GFCI yet to see if it needs reset? --24.101.xxx.xxx

Older mobiles sometimes have the fuses/breakers in the main panel go bed. Have you checked them? --97.85.x.xx

If people would give a better description of issues we could fix it here on the site. A full description also helps. --108.239.xx.xx

I agree that NEC states no box can be covered where access is not an option. It is dangerous to say the least.

If you think that is the issue find an electrician that will use a simple no contact device to sniff out where the problem is at. Should trace to the dead box. Then figure out how to open the box up as it should never be covered.

I have had circuits go dead because a wire nut came off or loose in a box. It might not be at the breaker, but you need to have access to all the boxes at all times.

If the foam is so thick that they can't sniff it from above or below then your only option is to start digging. You could possibly get a thermal camera to check for the bad spot. This would potentially work if it was a loose connection. --107.147.xx.xxx

Thank you Landlords and RB, you were right, I had to hire a more qualified electrician. Turns out that the electrical box was not hidden but in an obscure place. This electrician did say he doesn't work on mobile homes. He was a referral from an associate so I give him some credit. The problem is now resolved. --173.69.xx.xx

I am a licensed electrician. I have many electrical tracing devices, such as a Greenlee Power Finder, Circuit Tracer.

I had one trailer in my park say their power bill doubled last month, but they didn't increase their power usage.

So I hooked up my Power Finds and walked the park, some 10 feet way from my line of trailers. 7 doors down my tracer found who was steeling power. A drunken redneck missing two teeth was smart enough to run an extension cord under the surface and steel power.

If I can find a thief steeling power 7 trailers away, anyone who know anything about tracing an outlet box should find it withing a inch or two, in front, in back or behind a wall. --47.147.xxx.xxx
