Like others have said, if it's legal, it's allowed. I don't ask. Some former tenants have seen me armed. I had a security guard roomer - I saw him armed, no problem.

I'm more concerned about those with switchblades & such, rather than anyone with a sidearm in a holster. Hopefully, they are a responsible gun owner, if they asked.

I always assume that everyone is (may be) armed in some sort of way. If nothing else, nearly everyone is bigger and stronger than me.

My point is Always be careful! --68.229.xxx.xxx

I would never prohibit a weapon for self defense and defense of home. There is already a legal basis for suing a LL over a criminal act if the LL had some failure in securing/lighting the place which allowed the criminal in. It would be even worse if the tenant was a victim and could also state that I had disarmed him or her and therefore made their situation even more precarious. --73.141.xxx.xxx

Curious so I googled gun ownership. More people own than one might think. Lib states have the fewest. Perhaps due to laws.

Indiana no longer requires a license.

wisevoter.com/state-rankings/gun-ownership-by-state/

MO 52.8% own guns.

IN 42.4%

OH 41.9%

MT 65.7%

NJ 8.9%

Now you know!

We don't ask. South Carolinians would be embarrassed to say no, so we just to be polite assume they do have guns.

The constitution says yes.

SC law recently changed so no permit required.

California State law requires a gun safe.

A good install of a gun safe will cause some damage..lag bolts into the wall and floor, possibly removing some baseboard. Both of mine are properly installed. If they asked, they are probably responsible gun owners. Crooks, drug dealers etc would never have asked. --76.138.xxx.xxx

Well no. Just because something is legal doesn't make it allowed. Smoking is legal and I don't allow it. Parking on the grass is legal and I don't allow it. When I had rentals in Oregon, growing pot was legal and I didn't allow that, either.

However, nearly without exception, all of my tenants have had firearms. I had an 80 year old grandma that went elk hunting every year and had the rifle to do it with. I would talk hunting and fishing with my tenants.

Here, I just had a family move out that maybe didn't have any guns. I assume the rest of my tenants do.

I do screen carefully to keep criminals and dope dealers out and those are the only ones I'd worry about them having guns. Even the children here have their own guns (hunting rifles) --76.178.xxx.xxx

For my response I meant only about the firearm. If they are legally allowed to own one then it is of no concern to me.

I expect every single person that I meet to be armed, legally or not. That way I am not surprised if I see that they are armed.

Smoking pot in my state is not legal (yet). If someone does it and it doesn't bother anyone else the popo don't seem to care. I tell tenants that indulge that once it becomes an issue with another tenant then it is an issue with me.

I allow smoking in my places simply because there are so many smokers. Although I am in process of putting oil based kilz on the ceilings, walls, trim and doors of the current empty because of the nicotine stains. It does make me want to reconsider at times. --107.147.xx.xxx

Let's face it, people are DUMB! Most of my tenants leave their car keys out on a table for anyone to take. The same if for their guns. The leave them loaded and in a drawer that any 5 year old can access.

I give my prospective tenants test on Cats, Dogs, Cars, Guns and Tools. If they fail the test, I won't rent to them. --47.147.xxx.xxx
