Elyria newspaper says Cleveland nonprofit will spend 15k to conduct fair housing testing in Lorain, Ohio on 20 units. Cost includes workshops. Testing is called "mystery shopping of the rental market." April is Fair Housing Month.

Automate, automate, automate. Automation has no feelings or bias and screens everybody 100% equally. --71.63.xx.xx |

I am sure these testers will be calling many N E Ohio advertisements with empty apartments. --76.190.xxx.xxx |

Gwen,
Interesting that they advertised this.
Testers are ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS testing so operate like your are being tested each time.
Jason,
I like your automation and agree it is at arm's length. But it is still your arm. I am concerned if they answer in a way that does not exactly match your filters the wrong person might get denied, the Fair Housing Board would hold you responsible.
They often attack to test the LL's procedures more than just individual complaints.

Brad, that’s a valid concern, but I have over 2000 lines of code to see to it that doesn’t happen. Worst case scenario, if somebody does get improperly denied we just follow up with a correctional follow up. --71.63.xx.xx |

Jason ... how would you know that someone was improperly denied? --69.201.xx.xxx |

Everybody’s answers are logged into a database that I review daily (just for the entertainment value). I’ve never had the system fail me by rejecting someone it shouldn’t, nor am I worried about it failing me. However, worst case scenario I just send a correctional follow up. --174.193.xx.xx |
