Scuffed Allure (by DJ [VA]) Posted on: Mar 9, 2023 8:44 PM Message:
I have some Allure that is scuffed.
Not really scratched, but looks like stuff was dragged / rubbed across the surface, across the grain.
It looks bad when you look across the floor from the side.
Regular cleaning/mopping has been done.
Any recommendations for how to restore its good looks?
Thanks in advance.

Online, there are suggestions to use alcohol, vinegar, WD-40, olive oil, & more.
Has anyone here had a successful experience with any of them?

I think most things that work will be VERY temporary. If just some pieces, replace them. --99.92.xxx.xxx |

On vinyl they make a product called Bright. There are others. Maybe a rocking chair sat there and this is from their feet pushing? How interesting. I've been successful in replacing one strip in the middle. --172.59.xxx.xxx |

Allure RESTORE. It's like Mop & Glo of old but specifically for Allure. Works nicely.
Last forever? No. But works quite well to 'restore' an old floor to a nice shine again and of course, can be used again. --50.82.xxx.xxx |

I'm becoming less enthralled with LVP for exactly that reason. Scuffs and scratches pretty easily. The Allure tile-look plank seemed to have a more durable, linoleum-type surface. I may go back to Pergo in non-wet areas. --104.230.xxx.xxx |

I think Tony has a good idea with the toothpaste. You would already have that on hand and so would cost very little to try. --98.40.x.xxx |

What class of rental? If C or lower, leave it "as is" and don't worry: vinyl plank flooring is already in the top 10% of Class C rentals, and a few scuffs are no big deal.
If Class B or higher, replace the pieces. It's not hard. A hairdryer will melt the glue stripes enough to pull it apart. If it's in the center of the room and hard to access, cut it out with a box knife and slide a new piece in place. You can glue it down with liquid nail if it's too hard to fit it onto the other glue strips. Just trim them as needed to level the floor. Or I've also used double sided sticky tape that overlaps on the backside of the surrounding pieces. My handyman is really good at this kind of stuff, and the cost to replace 2-3 pieces is usually one service trip ($60), which is cheap for a permanent solution.

Replace the piece. They sell special strips to slide in after old piece has been taken out. You might practice on a spot in closet. --67.184.xxx.xxx |

When it loses it's sheen from wear scuffs we use Rejuvenate. Like any wax product, it makes it look nice for a few months and then has to be reapplied. If they are deeper scratches though, it won't cover them. --209.205.xxx.xx |

We have an over-garage ADU - the Allure separated a bit right in the middle of the floor on several boards. New tenant said "No big deal." I told her we didn't have time to replace right now but we would buy her the area rug of her choice (within reason, up to $150.) She was very happy, chose a (very weird) rug from Amazon (but what do I care?) and I ordered it for her. Win/Win. --50.82.xxx.xxx |

It's not a matter of replacing a piece. It's basically the whole eat-in kitchen in a very nice house that is the parsonage for my church. While we're between pastors, we are spiffing it up.
There are no scratches - it's superficial.
I have some magic erasers, & will try them first.
I also got some rejuvenate from HD today - can finish up with that.
I'll let y'all know what works.
Great solution, WMH! Cooperative tenant : ) --68.229.xxx.xxx |

I will second WMH on don't use the magic erasers.
Those have their place, but when you are worried about the same sheen or finish you might be in trouble.
Not like when I had a new cleaner use them on dirty spots on the walls. We just painted over everything. --107.147.xx.xxx |
