I Need some ideas from someone. A neighbor of mine is 74 years old, on a limited budget, renting a house.

He has Spectrum for his t.v provider. Its costing him $150 a month and he wants to get rid of it to find something cheaper / more affordable.

He doesn't want internet (so that lets out roku) he just wants t.v channels he can see all the fishing programs, football and basket ball games.

What can he get and who do you get to install and help him get it set up ???

Roku. Explain that he can just use the internet for watching tv. Ignore the rest. --157.131.xxx.xxx

Use an outdoor antenna and if you can get those desirable channels great, I am an electronic geek and make mine from repurposed refrigeration tubing and plastic sewer leftovers, I get many Canadian and southern Ohio stations. --76.190.xxx.xxx

Install a free to air antenna with a amplifier then if high enough can get most channels withing a hundred kilometers or 60 miles. Depanding on the terrain then can receive more channels. No fees whatever. In house have a free to air antenna where can receive many Us channels up to 160 kilometers where some Us and Canadian will depend on weather conditions and time. Going to reinforce mask where high winds blew down where now can not attempt when temperatures are really low. --68.69.xxx.xxx

I'd call Spectrum and see what is up. Spectrum's TV-Only plan is like half that price. My guess is that he has some TV/internet/phone bundle from them that he likely doesn't need. (Also, before switching, make sure you check to see if he has a landline through Spectrum so that he doesn't lose his number if he cancels.)

In other words: Something isn't right. Spectrum is not $150/month for normal TV service. He's got a weird bundle that he doesn't need or he's getting more than he thinks from them.

To be sure, he doesn't want internet at all at home?

He can probably get internet for free or at a reduced price through the Government program www.fcc.gov/acp once he has that then look at Roku which is free or another online provider like youtube TV which is about $70 a month for hundreds of channels. You might stop by walmart and buy a digital antenna ($20-30)and try that first, he'll probably get 20 or so channels doing just free over the air programming using the TV's tuner. --209.205.xxx.xx

I will have him call and see what kind of a bundle package he has. He has no internet or land line in the house.

I think I could get him the free to air antenna.

I had forgot about the fiber I know its available in our area. Lots of good ideas here. THANKS to all

OTA antenna. I have one but it is connected to a Tablo box (alternative to TIVO) The Tablo box is connected to an external drive. With it I can connect to local channels and other stuff then record it.

I also have a Roku and fiber. --64.246.xxx.xx
