I received a letter from state controller saying I have an unclaimed money. It indicates the type of property as Escrow Accounts. It also says they were unable to contact me since 2018. I have a property that i purchased in 2018. At the bottom of the letter it also says the state controller’s office does not have you property.

I showed the letter to a friend and she said it’s legit . I also don’t think the amount is big for a fraud but it will help me if I get it. According to the letter it says one additional owner may be entitled to this property. If you have experienced this kind of issue, I would like your feedback

I ran my cousin's name thru it and found he had half a million in an account belonging to his father, who died years ago. It took him six months to get around to filing a claim for it. This is what happens when you are left $80,000,000 in real estate. Half a mil not worth the immediate effort.

I don't know CA laws but here in MO it is very much worth checking into.

Many years ago - 1968 - while serving in the military overseas when we would get a phone call asking for any one's information we never answered any questions. We always ask for the name of the people calling and wanting the information and we ask for their phone number.

As Robert J noted, you'll just need to visit the California State Controller's Office. I myself actually went through this process to help relatives claim unclaimed money. It is easy but just requires maybe a printer and a copier. We needed to provide a document or two as proof of the person's name and the address where the person lived.
