FYI, I've heard identity theft is common and an easy way to prevent it is to lock your credit score. If you google "freeze your credit" you'll see a link from nerd wallet on how to do it. It took me maybe 15 minutes to do it at the 3 credit reporting sites.

Mine has been locked/frozen for years. I've had to unlock it briefly for only a few things: a mortgage, maybe when I bought my car I forget but very little else. --50.82.xxx.xxx

Birthdate is essential to open one personal identity as without a birthday the combination to open safe is out of the hands of identity thieves. Never give out name, address, birthday, social insurance number to any unknown sources over phone or internet as this will ensure you stay private. On microsoft account I delleted as much information as possible as now switched to Imac OS and iphone as will leave microsoft and android forever. Most of the scams come from Africa, India, Pakistan or Bangledesh where they sometimes call then tell I have no credit card then they hang or ask to meet in person where absolutely nothing over phone. They always have a heavy accent. --68.69.xxx.xxx

funny, but sad kevin, how a service like lifelock takes money from the unknowing. Kind of like all the "protection" plans offered on everything you buy

Thanks Robert for the info on that. I never thought twice about giving out my birthdate but I will now. --71.125.xx.xxx
