No insurance company is in business to pay out claims. Hire a public adjuster. --75.67.xxx.xxx

woody, Start with the FACT the company adjustor's job is to save the company money.

Recent fire - State Farm (super nice guy, very cooperative) wrote the claim for $47,000.

I kept asking questions - But how much to board up the windows, shrubbery the firemen destroyed, trash out all the soaked mattresses and personal items, my appliances...

On each one he replied "We can give some money for that". These were NOT in his claim amount.

Hired a public adjustor. His total came to $93,000 and he negotiated with State Farm.

We settled on $74,000 the max value of the policy.

MY adjustors' fee is based on the increase so he got $11,000.

READ your policy so you KNOW what is covered.

I am a contractor and still at times have issues with insurance companies. Therefor my first stop is contacting my independent State Farm Agent. I ask for their help in filing a claim. I've got several policies with each agent with each different carrier. So if my agent doesn't help, I'll take my business elsewhere.

I had a farmers agent give me issues and lie to my face saying he and the company are giving me great service and prices as a long term customer with no claims. This was so not true. Out of 19 policies, 10 I did not renew with them.

If you agent won't help, then get many estimates and/or get a public adjuster. --47.149.xxx.x

Woody, the big take away from Brad’s example is that he got more money even after the public adjuster was paid and he did not have the heartburn and anger fighting the insurance company. Our public adjuster went through the burnt wreckage counting every children’s book and article of clothing in my children’s room. I could not have done that. I had to recreate what was in my closet and storage closet since they were no longer. Best choice we ever made calling a public adjuster. --75.67.xxx.xxx

In a fire I had, the insurance adjuster came after six days to a 41 unit place that left them all homeless. After day four I hired a PA. The number the insurance number came up with was between 300-400K in damages. The Public Adjustor came up with just over 1.3M and the insurance company paid a total of 1.245M.

When your customers end up homeless at no fault of there own - waiting was just asking for legal trouble. --24.101.xxx.xxx
