I'm looking for recommendations for an exterior door paint in a coastal area. I'm repainting the door far more often than I would like. This is in an HOA community with all doors mandated to be a common color. In the coastal air, the paint fades quickly and bare rust spots will show through. Each time I paint, I sand the rust spots before repainting. The issue is more the rapidly fading and weathered paint in the coastal air.

Try a really good oil based paint. I just repainted a door with this paint,
(ouch $100 a gallon) and wow, it's great. I can not remember the name of it, but I got it at Sherwin Williams. I'm sure other paint companies have their own version. I'm not on the coast, but live in jungle like humidity in Central Fl, feel your pain. --142.196.xxx.xx |

My general contractor has had some good results with having doors painted and the enamel baked on at a local auto body shop. Can you find a local auto body shop that will paint match? They can bake on the paint to a new door, and you swap out the door. Should get a bit more time with an automotive paint than just regular paint --149.76.xxx.xx |

In addition to using oil (or auto) paint, if you get all the way down to sanding bare metal, be sure to use a high-quality metal primer before re-painting. --68.229.xxx.xxx |
