The ban would include EPA rated wood stoves, gas stoves, gas boilers, gas furnaces, gas clothes dryers, gas water heaters then would require everything to be electric where would expect a induction stove. All those options would be too expensive to do so as the cost of natural gas here is one thiird of electticity where would bankrupt most of the laundromats which only use natural gas clothes dryers. Later they would ban all gasoline and diesel power vehicles completely. If had the funds would only buy a Tesla as Tesla has electric charging infrastructure for charging EV. --68.69.xxx.xxx

I did. Typical Govt. Stupid is as stupid does.

I own two small houses built in the 1920s that have 60 amp fuse boxes. There is no way to add an electric stove without a full upgrade including service mast, service panel, and rewiring up to code. In my town, you touch Anything other than a single circuit and it requires 100% up to code. Last time I priced it, the cost was around $5000 per unit. That was pre-Covid.

My guess is there are probably at least 5,000,000 housing units across the nation that likewise would require these updates if gas stoves are made illegal. So for a cool $25 billion, done deal!

Then there are all the nicer, newer houses that will require retrofitting because they have gas ranges. Won't require a full upgrade to code because there will be plenty of room in the box to add another circuit, but still... let's say another $500-$800 per house... probably something like 50 million or so homes nationwide with capacity only for gas stoves...

We haven't event discussed the millions of restaurants across the nation that have gas fired grills, ovens, etc.

All paid for by Uncle Sugar (Sam) no doubt to get rid of what is essentially a relatively clean source of fuel at a time when the nation's electric grid staggers under current demand. A couple trillion here or there and pretty soon we're talking about real money.

In the US there is a proposal to ban JUST stoves because they aren't vented like a furnace, dryer or water heater. It's less about burning fossil fuels and more about indoor air quality for kids, people with breathing issues, etc.

It's ridiculous because how many minutes per day do you cook? A lot of days zero. Even 30 minutes most days would be a lot. --68.46.xx.xxx

Maybe it's local code but we have no requirement to vent an oven or cooktop. You WANT to have a hood to remove cooking odors but it's not required here. Even over the range microwaves often just vent back into the room and not outside. Plus if you are just boiling water or running the oven you don't typically also run the hood. --68.46.xx.xxx

A few years ago during a multi-day power outage in the winter, we had no electricity to run our gas furnace. So I lit the burners on our gas stove and just barely cracked the kitchen window. I periodically checked the carbon monoxide using my computer's uninterruptible power supply and a carbon monoxide detector with a LED readout. The detector always showed zero and we were able to keep our 1200 sq. ft. house at 63 degrees for those few days with no issues.

Besides that, if it is an issue for those children who have asthma, let the parents choose where and how they want to live rather than make it an issue for those who have no asthma issues.

In the house have hood on top of stove that vents directly outside. What the bigger picture here is banning anything that burns natural gas, gasoline, heating oil, propane, wood then go entirely electric where as result of the high cost of electrity here doubt will ever do that. Heat pump splits lose efficiency as temperature drops to -40 degrees Celsius or Fahrenheit as both are same. They do not manufacture spiit heat pums that use ground to extract heat or cool where the outside temperature would not effect efficiency. The cost of buying a induction electric stove is really high where during the peak electric demand they use gas turbine generation where is there is 3 per cent loss in transmission. Own a chain saw, gas lawnmower, pressure washers, blower mulched and snow auger where electric does not have power. Have a battery electric chainsaw which works but does last longer then 20 minutes as smaller branches. In order for the house to go net zero than insulation has to upgraded to R 90 ceiling and R 50 walls along with triple plated low E argon gas windows. Doing the attic is possible where would have to insulation then stucco outside for walls. Unless own or rent a house then it is not possible to install a EV charge hook up. --68.69.xxx.xxx

Thinking this is just a ploy to move everyone to electricity for heating, cooking, hot water, laundry, and backup generators. Then they can force every home to use a smart meter and cut off houses individually or monitor everything they use and legislate a maximum usage making everyone's consumption "equal."

It's all about controlling the population by having us all dependent on electricity as our only means for cooking, washing, transportation, etc., while our grids are exposed to terror attacks like the people that shot at and shutdown a relay station causing major outage. And since they aren't allowing any new coal, nuke, or gas electricity power plants to be built, the grid won't handle the excess, making rationing necessary and the goal of the kook fringe. --108.69.xxx.xxx

"It's all about controlling the population by having us all dependent on electricity as our only means for cooking, washing, transportation, etc., while our grids are exposed to terror attacks ..." Do you suppose that smart engineers can figure out how to re-route electricity demand automatically if one relay station goes down, if electricity is as abundant as we can actually make it. Consider further development of nuclear generation, not to mention those amazing results last month from the Lawrence Berkeley Lab? We can have as much electricity as we demand with present fission techniques, and now fusion is on the way.

Here if solar panels are installed on roof then property taxes go up where everyone wants to be green without any penaltes. We pay a carbon tax on gasoline, diesel, narural gas, propane where if use EPA wood stove with free wood no carbon tax at all. During every major military conflict this country never had military conscription where it was all voluntery. How does installing a induction electric stove reduce carbon where during peak times they use gas turbne generation where there is 3 per cent loss in transmission. Insulating house with spray foam is reducing energy consumption where do not have the funds to do all at once. Natural gas furnace is 96.1 efficient, demand natural gas water heater is 81 per cent efficient much better then a direct fired tank. Natural gas clothes dryer seldom use where front load washing machines spins out where in 3 hours it is dry except blue jeans. If house was net zero then no need to connected to the grid where no heat loss or heat gain. A apartment building that uses less energy is worth more. A house that uses less energy is worth more. It's interesting that this thread continues, but no one has mentioned that it wasn't true at all. There is no plan or even real suggestion from anyone in power to ban gas stoves. Bloomberg basically ran an incorrect article and almost all talk has been based on that incorrect information. Bloomberg tends to do this -- rush to push out a story before they have their facts straight.

ONE commissioner of a consumer safety agency suggested to the press that a ban on gas stoves could be on the table. This was his personal opinion and not based on reality. Since then, the chair of the Consumer Product Safety Commission said that the agency is indeed researching the impact of gas stoves and how they might be made better in the future (such as required venting), they have absolutely no plans to ban them.

Note that there is also a convenience "#cookingwithgas" marketing campaign being run right now on Twitter by some large gas companies. What surprisingly convenient timing!

In any case, this isn't a thing. Never was. Just news media misinformation and/or bad reporting -- combined with a marketing campaign by people who really, really want to push people to buy more gas stuff.

Note that even the junior commissioner who spoke with the press didn't say that they were really considering a ban. All he said was: "This is a hidden hazard. Any option is on the table. Products that can't be made safe can be banned."

That's it. A statement that products that can't be made safe can be banned. Well, duh. That's the JOB of a Consumer Safety Commission -- to make sure products are safe and, if not, they can't be sold.

But that's barely an implication that they might even consider banning gas stoves. But Bloomberg ran with it and told everyone that was the plan when it clearly isn't.

Even that junior commissioner has now revised his statement and clarified that even if they were ever banned, it would be for new construction only. But, again, there are absolutely NO PLANS to do that currently.

I think you missed the point of why those young men agreed to allow themselves the to be "told" what to do, it was called standing up for freedom. It is a basis for what this country was built on. To use that as an argument for blindly following an oppressive government mandate is the worst form of disrespect to those young men and women and what they stood and died for, your freedom to write such nonsense.

"Someone is paranoid about some invisible source trying to control his every movement and thought. I disagree."

My what a short memory some have. Not 2 years ago we went through a whole series of statements/actions that were a manipulation of our society by our government. It started with "lock down for 2 weeks to limit overwhelming our hospital", then went into fire anyone who wouldn't get the shot, and finally to our president knowingly violating the Constitution after he was warned by the Supreme Court over the eviction moratorium. While it may not have been invisible, there certainly was a lot of government effort put in to control our every movement and thought. To not be a bit paranoid is to repeat the same failures of the past. By the way, much of that overreach is now being undone through the court system. --209.205.xxx.xx

Ken, I agree, was just saying it has nothing to do with indoor emissions. --172.58.xxx.xxx

Locally the gas co was working on pipes and gas actually started to flow along the outside of the pipes into someone's home and blew the poor owner through the roof and onto the roof of her car. It's not to be fooled with but we could lose our grid due to x class solar flares. There was one last week captured on video but it did not leave the sun. It billowed up and fell back down. This is a serious problem. Just read that solar equipment is being held up due to problems with it being made by enslaved peoples. It's backed up in and out of our country so it's going nowhere right now. --71.188.xx.xxx

John--It is not the wacky exaggeration that you make it out to be. After the uproar, the White House guy was embarrassed and contradicted what the regulator had stated.

Have you not read how major cities such as NYC have ALREADY banned gas in new construction??

No, the regulator did not say "we are gonna have a nationwide ban in a few years," but his statement did make it clear that it was an eventual possibility. --73.141.xxx.xxx

The first step of the ban would be on new construction. Then-----it would be extended to new installations. Finally, they would be banned outright and everyone would have to change over. This is how gov't takes away our freedom, incrementally.
