Rent Relief – No Money
I had applied for Rent Relief for 6 of my Virginia tenants.
Two applications were approved and then rejected without any explanation.
For three properties applications were approved, but no money has been received since May 2022.
One application was paid.
What are my options for getting paid? Please advise. Thanks.

During the first round of Rent Relief money, it was given directly to my tenants to help pay for the rent. All of them kept those funds. When I reported this, the agency said I should sue them, not their problem.
When the second round of Rent Relief money was given out directly to the landlords, the tenants had to first agree and sign a document. Then my tenants only would agree to sign if I gave them half of the money. So no money for me.
In a Case from California that made it's way to Federal Court, a landlord was out $20,000,000 (Twenty Million Dollars in past rent money. The Judge said, "If we allowed tenants to be evicted, then they would speed the Virus to others. For the Greater good, what the government did was right"! Then the landlord has stated that it was taking of his property which meant he needed to be compensated! The Jude's ruling, this is only Temporary!
In Los Angeles City we as landlord can not evict until after February 2024. A period of 4 years without rent.
So if you think you have problems? well at least you State/City will allow you to evict someone gaming the system. Not here were the politician's are to dumb, stupid or on the take!

Like any government program there is going to be abuse where some have bought new vehicles, furniture or went on a nice expensive vacation. If they received the funds that was supposed to be used for rent. During the pandemic the majority of tenants were working or received social assistance where no not need any help paying rent. Try to pay a visit to the government office then ask why the rent relief was not paid. Consider contacting a landlords association where google to find. I my lifetime never the abuse that rental housing providers were put through during the pandemic. It fails to look at the overall picture where rental housing providers employ local people and buy at local businesses not the third world. If they treated the local supermarket that way next week it would close down then workers would be out on the street along with people would have no where to buy groceries locally. --68.69.xxx.xxx |

I've never been on e to believe the Government was here to help me. I would suggest you recognize it isn't going to happen and get a judgment against tenants and get them on a monthly payment schedule if your state allows garnishments.

At this point... if you haven't started eviction... do it tomorrow and don't stop until you've either received all of your money owed or the property is given back to you. --69.201.xx.xxx |

I got this message from the Virginia rent relief program in September:
As of September 15, 2022, the Virginia Rent Relief Program has less than $20 million available for applicant payments after disbursing approximately $1 billion since the inception of the program. At this time, we anticipate payment to all eligible and completed applications submitted on or before the RRP portal closure on May 15, 2022, with the remaining funds. It is anticipated that the majority of the remaining eligible and completed applications will be processed and paid by the end of September.
I have a couple contact names and numbers with the department of housing if you want them, but, I don’t think it will do any good at this point.
I called my state representative and he was no help.
Good luck! --98.181.xxx.x |
