In many City's a landlord must have some type of license. Either registering each rental unit, having an legal office or just some sort of TAX, that if not paid, you won't be allowed to collect rent or evict a tenant. Go online and look it up or call your Housing Department. --47.156.xx.xx

This will be very location specific. Michigan has no state requirement to be licensed as a landlord. It will all come down to your local requirements. Are you required to be licensed by Oakland county? Or your township? Or some city requirement where you are?

To clarify that... I don't actually mean a "license" to be a landlord. I mean that the state has no licensing requirement for rental properties (nor even inspections). All of that would be from local ordinances at the county, township, or city/whatever level.
