Clarify with this resident if they are requesting a new lease (new terms and rent increase) or just simply requesting a copy of the current lease. If a government service is paying part or all of their lease then you'll have to follow their rules. I have several section 8 residents, all my residents renters have to prove to the school district a current lease and they don't want to school to know all their business plus the original HUD leases have their move in date, which could be several years ago, for one year, renewing each year, same paper, however the school doesn't recognize it as such cause there clearly is an one year end date. So I provide for these residents a one page simple lease, for one year, the deposit amount is lower, the rent higher, the numbers do not match, but it is for the term of the school year and it quickly satisfies the school need to verify their address and that they are living in the district with the rights to send their kids to that school.
