Their lying – right off the bat.
I came and turned on my laptop this morning and the first thing that came up was “YOUR IN CONTROL”.
The next thing was “GET WINDOWS 11”.
Took me 20 minutes trying to keep from getting Windows 11. Not much control if you ask me.
Grant it, it might have been a tiny bit of my fault for having to take so long preventing Windows 11 from invading my computer. I have dyslexia, can’t read or write very well. Certainly, don’t do any good trying to spell. Its just the headspace between the ears.
Now that my rant is over here is the question.
Can anyone on here tell me how I can prevent this invasion of Windows 11 each time I turn on my computer going forward. Just pretty sure “it” or “they” will try again, and again, and ….
So, how can I stay in control and keep Windows 10

I don't know. I just paged through the splash pages this morning with decline and keep windows 10. didn't seem difficult to me. I don't care about windows 11, I just don't like change and windows 10 is working just fine.
Every once in awhile I think I need an apple laptop but then I see the price and figure I can get two windows laptops for the same price. --65.188.xxx.xxx |

I don’t see the issue. Windows 11 is not that different from windows 10. Easy switch. Support for Win10 will end in what, 2 years? At that point, you won’t get security updates for 10 any longer. --149.76.xxx.xx |

To note it, Windows 10 is supported with security updates through at least October 2025. So, 3 years from now.
As for them being "not that different." Lots of people would disagree with you on that. Windows 11 goes to a much more Mac-like interface that a lot of people are not fans of. The Start Menu does not display all apps by default -- which, again, is quite different for people that use the Start Menu often. (Both of those can be changed to be more like Windows 10 though.)
In the long run, yes, I think Win11 in the near future (year or two) makes sense -- but if you want to wait a year or two, I think that is fine too since you have until late 2025, at least...

Windows 11 will obsolete many computers where only one laptop with Windows 10 and one desktop. The other computers downloaded Linux 20.3 to flash drive then rarely use windows OS. The worst with Windows is Microsoft Edge search engine which is very difficult to remove where using Duck Duck go search engine which does not have the spyware. Any search engine with Windows is going to slow computer down. Other Computers are iMac which use iMac OS system. Microsoft collects information then have a profile on you where sell to advertise agencies. Linux does not obsolete computers where updates without downloading any spyware or other software not wanted. You tube videos on how to download a Linux operating system then over with Micrososoft. --68.69.xxx.xxx |

I suggest a sample of Ubuntu 16, run from the cd till you get familiar with Libre-office, Mozilla, once you see how it behaves I suggest staying 1 version from the newest and install the long term support ( LTS ) version. You can add wine to get many but not all windows applications to run in virtual -window-. --76.190.xxx.xxx |

Get a Mac. The hardest part is getting started and learning the new (user-friendly) system. Once you switch, you'll never look back. I made the transition about 8 yrs ago, much less daily aggravation with the computer. --107.221.xxx.xx |

You can turn off the update service behind the scenes. If you have windows pro, there’s a setting in the group policy editor you can change. Otherwise, a registry change can be made. --172.58.xxx.xxx |

As much as I love Ubuntu, I disagree with using it for a Windows replacement. Now I love using Ubuntu Server and have used it for years as my goto web/mail servers but never for desktop.
I recommend converting to Mac instead of using Linux for one main reason... apps. Most of the windows apps I like and love have a mac version (Quickbooks, Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Adobe, etc.) You can find most of the programs you use in Windows, in Mac. But if you use Linux, you have to find new programs. And while this isn't too big a deal for the adventurous, the big problem comes when you need to share data with others. If someone hands you a word file and you need to save it without major translation and save it in a file others can use. This is a major issue when using open office docs to open Word/Excel files.
When deciding which operating system to buy, the available apps should be the deciding factor. --108.69.xxx.xxx |

I have updates EXTREMELY delayed as a former IT person (Just retired today at 4:00 PM) and having worked with WSUS I know what damage can be inflicted!
Most of the equipment I have doesn't support W11 hardware wise.
You can google the disable W11 update in the registry to follow along with screenshots but it is done like this:
open run box/search box type in regedit
hit enter
(perform at your own risk-- i would perform an EXPORT first-->file-->export):
navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoftWindowsWindowsUpdate
If you cannot locate the WindowsUpdate key, then right-click on the Windows key and select the New > Key option.
Rename this newly created key as WindowsUpdate.
Now double-click on WindowsUpdate and right-click anywhere in the right pane.
Select the New > DWORD (32-bit) Value option and rename this value as TargetReleaseVersion.
Next, double-click on the TargetReleaseVersion value, and under Value data, type 1 (hexidecimal)
Once done, right-click anywhere in the same window again and this time, select the New > String Value option.
Rename this value as TargetReleaseVersionInfo and double-click on it.
If you are on Windows 10 version 21H2, (determined by typing in: winver in a run/search box and hitting enter) then type 21H2 under Value data and hit Enter.
If you are on Windows 10 version 21H1, then type 21H1 under Value data and hit Enter.
Once done, restart your computer to cancel Windows 11 update.
If you have windows 10 PRO and not a "home" version you can modify this setting using gpedit.msc

Once there are more problems with Windows then it is easy to install Linux 20.3 in laptop or desktop computer where no need to throw computers in garbage. Linux 20.3 can be used for most everyday functions. It was really difficult to remove Microsoft Edge search engine from computers where have one laptop and desktop with Windows 10. Where desktop had Windows 11 which is worse then Windows 10. Chrome is another search engine that is going to slow computer down where will never download. Using Duck Duck go search engine in all computers. If want to upgrade to Imac then online there many good used Imac computers for sale where depending on model $100 to $400 dollars. Microsoft sent me a few emails that I using third party software where will never remove from Linux computers. Emails, photos work well with Linux 20.3 along with Kodo tv for free which is not available on any Windows OS. --68.69.xxx.xxx |

Do you mean Kodi TV? Kodi is available for Windows and has been for a long, long time. I don't know what you're talking about when you say it "isn't available on any Windows OS."
Also, I've seen you repeatedly recommend Linux over Windows here. That's fine if all people do is use a web browser for something like Facebook and email. But lots of LLs here use Windows to run Quickbooks or other software. There is LOTS of Windows software that doesn't run on Linux that people here might be using.
Don't get me wrong. I use Linux. But I'm an IT professional who knows what they are doing. Telling the average person to just switch from Windows to Linux -- while ignoring all of the Windows-specific software they very well might be using (especially if they use their computer for business purposes at all) -- is just not a good recommendation.
