I have a situation where my first cousin passed away. He died intestate. We are now opening up probate to handle his estate. He was unmarried, and had no children. A determination of the family tree has determined that I, my sister, another first cousin and his brother are the immediate beneficiaries. I have found out that one first cousin has passed. When I inquired with that cousin's widow as to the whereabouts of his brother, her terse response was along the lines of, "Oh, we haven't corresponded with him in years." She wasn't very helpful at all, and just wanted to end the phone call ASAP. From what information I have culled from the internet, he moved a lot. First, there was residency in the Philippines, then in Hawaii, and last somewhere in Washington state.

Here is what I have at hand: His complete full name, his birth date (making him 79 years old today), and the town, along with the hospital, where he was born at. I myself haven't corresponded with him in over 27 years. He would be much easier to locate or determine his living status if I had his Social Security Number. This is very similar as with performing a Skip Trace. I am open to suggestions. What would you recommend I should do next? --174.192.xxx.xxx

Run the social security death record site.

He may be deceased and if so, it should show up there.

Also, lawyers/skip tracers have access to bank, mutual fund, etc records through their connections and if he has an account at anyplace it should tell you. --24.180.xx.xx

Tell the widow that you cannot open the estate without finding him and maybe she will be more helpful. She obviously does not like the guy and probably figures that if he is out of the picture there will be more for everyone else. --70.90.xx.xxx
