State Specific Question About: GEORGIA (GA)

How long does it take for an appeal case to be heard in State Court in Georgia?

Not sure about Ga.

Also, don't use your real name on public forums. It's not safe.

Best to you. --24.180.xx.xx

I was hoping someone who knows GA would answer this. But since something might be better than nothing:

The most recent appeal I filed in CALIFORNIA took two years from the Notice of Appeal through the appellate court's decision. Almost exactly one full year for the Los Angeles Superior Court clerk and court reporter to prepare their respective Clerk's Transcript and Reporters' Transcript. Two months for the Opening Brief (with no extension), two months for the Respondent's Brief (with one extension), three weeks for the Reply Brief (with no extension). About 4 months before the oral argument, and another 2 months for the decision to be written and issued.

I hope your experience is faster!

I'm in GA and have a similar question; still researching and will [hopefully] double back as I find out more. what I do know is: #1. appeals take an inordinately long time since they're even longer than normal cases and normal cases (for small claims, at least) take a very long time (in fulton and dekalb; not sure about other counties) #2. the other party would have to perform some action in order for the appeal to even be considered, including paying the amount-to-be appealed into the registry of the court while the appeal was set up. In my case(s) the tenant was to pay the amount in dispute PLUS sone extra amounts into the registry and none ever did. I can imagine it tough to be out significant sum for an unknown amount of time. #3. the pandemic changes all rules so what may have been true before could well not be true any longer; all bets are off as of 2020. If you want to know the particulars of some of the would-be-appeals just let me know and I can dig a bit deeper for you. --85.244.xx.xx
