There is very little salt in my softener. I have about 4" of water that always remains i nthe bottom.

I have cleaned my nozzle & venturi and ran a couple cycles the water went down a little - it is now about 3" deep. The owners manuals says nothing about this.

Is it normal to have a little water in the bottom? I can see the fill/drain slots and they are clear to below the water line in the front. In the back there is some salt that is nearly impossible to get to - so the back might be clogged.

What is wrong?

I have a water softener,in my case if i let the salt get too low i see water in the bottom so i will say i believe it is normal.I was told to keep it full of softener salt, are you sure you dont need to just fill it up.I have a contract with Culligan, they give me 40 bags of salt per year and change filters etc and charge me about $45 per month,my water is real bad so with just 2 in the house i go through more than a bag per week and they come out whenever we have a problem with it --74.77.xx.xx

It is likely the suction hose has been inadvertently raised. The salt water is pumped so as to clean the resin pellets when softener regenerates. --149.76.xxx.xxx

If the salt runs low, I have water in the bottom of my softener too. Most people screw up and put too much salt in and the water level does go that high. So you end up having to smash the harden salt down --24.101.xxx.xxx

It is very much normal to have water in the bottom of your salt/brine tank. It should be low like you've mentioned. (If there is lots in there, then that is a problem.)
