If you misplaced a check from a tenant would you offer to pay the stop payment fee, if the tenant wanted to do that? It is 32.00

I usually make copies of my rent checks, and I thought I received it. It was a replacement for a check the tenant sent to me by mistake (not rent). This was for July and it is either lost in the mail, I misplaced it, or it got thrown out with the trash. I am sorry about it and I do believe I misplaced/threw it out. This is a mature, several year tenant on a fixed salary. I went online and viewed all of the checks/money orders that we deposited and it wasn't among them.

I'm lucky she is concerned about it as I know if the money is in her account, we didn't get paid for July. --216.126.xx.xxx

If that’s what it takes to move forward with no hard feelings, yes I would pay the fee.

However, I see no need in the stop payment action. You had the check, now you don’t. The check was probably thrown out in the trash, were you to find it later, you wouldn’t deposit it you would throw it out.

ACH is better than messing with paper checks. --149.76.xxx.xxx

Yes, I agree. And I have offered her the option of Zelle and gave her the needed i.d. info that she would need. About half of our tenants use that, the other half is split between checks/money orders & cash. --216.126.xx.xxx

I would pay the stop fee. Any chance you can meet up this time? It didn't clear thier account? Sometimes someone else gets the check and bad things happen. --73.230.xxx.xx

If I lost a tenants rent check, then I would be responsible for paying their stop payment fee. Otherwise if someone found the check and managed to modify it and scam my tenant out of the rent money -- I would not be able to complete a successful eviction having my tenant loose that money do to my carelessness. --47.156.xx.xx

We found it! My husband thought of it while he was in the shower. We had gotten mail out of the box on the way to the beach to our condo, and he had put it in our "medicine bag" to bring back when we came! Thanks to the good Lord for helping him to remember! --216.126.xx.xxx
