For some odd reason, I was wondering how much my property tax is on a daily basis, including my personal home. $370 a day…. Honestly a bit depressing. ). I know the tenants pay most of it, but still. My property taxes are much greater than federal taxes, which are still quite expensive.. have any of y’all calculated your daily property tax rate? --66.169.xxx.xxx

Unfortunately, those of us in TX where the state derives it's income primarily from property taxes are paying an arm and a leg in property taxes.

If you really want to get depressed make a list of every form of taxation that you pay both directly (income, RE, sales, fees, etc) and indirectly (payroll taxes at your local lumber yard when you shop there) and then estimate how many dollars you are paying in taxes for each. I've heard estimates as high as 65% of middle class income goes to all the various forms of taxes. That's pretty high but much of Europe with their VAT tax, the estimate is around 80% meaning only 20% of income actually directly benefits the earner. We aren't as far from socialism as some might think.

When the original bill writers were crafting the income tax bill they proposed to cap it at 6%. It was left out because they feared that they would loose votes because 6% was an astronomically high percentage and we would never get to that level. If only they could see us now.

Is this for all property tax including rental properties?

All property tax about $74 a day

Personal property tax is only about $8.50 a day

Insurance on all properties is also about $74 a day

Can't say I ever thought about it. Very good question. --65.188.xxx.xxx

You all need to come to my state where property taxes are dirt cheap. Last October, I wrote a check for $4,098.36 which paid for 1 year of property taxes for 15 rental houses. Now, if anyone here pays less property taxes than I do, I would like to know what state you are in. --71.207.xxx.x

I'd need to run the numbers in October to get the best answer, but I think the rentals are about $30-$35/day collectively.

I was down with Covid unexpectedly and missed my tax protest deadline in one county. One of them went up 75% and the other went up 24%. Ooops.

The other county I'm invested in was actually pretty stable. Our personal house (<$6/day) is the only one that had any significant increase, but we're still getting a good deal on it from previous protests. --137.118.xx.xxx

I'm not going to figure out per day, but my property taxes are higher, much higher, than my income tax.

Appraisal notices just came out and appraisals have just about doubled. Can't really appeal because that is what sales prices have done and I could sell for what the assessor says I can.

Roy (AL) I pay in the neighborhood of $4,000 for each house. Unfortunately, I don't want to live in AL. --76.178.xxx.xxx

I'm going to add this: in North Idaho, I can see what I am getting for my taxes. Roads are excellent, snow plowing is prompt, we have a good police force, the school are orderly and the kids polite (although I don't actually know if they are learning anything), our parks are beautiful, the city collects autumn leafs and runs the street sweeper all year so roads are clean.

In Oregon, where I paid just as much in tax, I always wondered where my money was going. Roads were a wreck, there was literally no snow plowing, I lived in the county so was not allowed to use the library, the police varied from incompetent, untrained, to non-existent, and the schools were begging for money non-stop and I knew kids who were going to school and not learning anything. --76.178.xxx.xxx

Oregon,

I would love to live in Idaho and I have visited that state once in 1997 (Selway River), however, there is no way I would ever pay $4K in property taxes for any house. Even the taxes on my $300K primary residence is only $600/year. --71.207.xxx.x

Property Taxes about $56 a day not counting personal, so I'm rounding up to $65 or so.

We have a volunteer fire department, no trash service, a private well and septic, and the post office won't deliver to several of our places. So except for schools I'm not sure what we are paying for except county employee salaries. They are the largest employer here.

Insurance about the same, probably, between Dwelling, Homeowner, Wind, Umbrella and General Liability policies. --50.82.xxx.xxx

Nice try. Where did I say FEDERAL tax. You forgot state, county, city, school district, and the various other taxing authorities. The $4T also excludes all the "special" taxes such as SS, SSI, Federal Gas tax, and agency permits and fees which aren't counted in the $4T.

Your personal Fed tax rate puts you in the top 40% of earners. I know this because about 60% of Americans pay no Federal Income Tax. Couple that with the fact that you as an average middle class earner get to decide how to spend an estimated 35% of your income while various government entities get to decide the 65%, I stand by my statement that we are closer to socialism than most think. --209.205.xxx.xx

according to OECD.org which is a highly respected worldwide data organization, "government general spending - 47.8% of GDP". Knowing that the lower 60% of Americans pay no Federal taxes leaving the middle and upper income paying the majority our share is higher than average.

If you don't like OECD.org, there are literally dozens of other sources that say the same thing, I've seen estimates anywhere from 50-65% of middle class income goes to to direct and indirect taxation, many of which you never directly see (by design). You are paying taxes at every transaction. Shoot, look at your phone bill and see how many hidden taxes there are just on it. Little by little it all adds up to over half and some estimate as high as 65% of every dollar you make going to taxes. You don't have to take my word for it, research it yourself.

Roy, Hawaii has a lower property tax rate than you. Yours is .41% and theirs is .28% although their state median home value is 4X yours so I guess it depends on how you look at it.

It is interesting to see how varied the taxes are but it doesn't help out much without knowing what the investment is. A million dollar of residential property is assessed differently than a million in commercial in Pa.

Then again I have a 2 million dollar commercial place in Southern Illinois that pays the nearly the same amount of tax as a half million dollar commercial place in Northern Illinois. Both of them are between $16,000 and $17,000 in property tax. In wish I could explain why. In Pa, if you are paying $2,400 per SFH, you are doing alright.

When it comes to GAs rights and the taxes you pay on them, you pay triple the amount in Pa then you do in WV, even as a non-resident of WV --24.101.xxx.xxx
