Not sure if it's off topic or not but venting some. I am getting MANY want to be tenants that are getting their first 6 months or one year rent along with the security deposit fully paid by various organizations.

These people have NO OTHER INCOME. When I ask "ok, so you will have the "guaranteed rent" for X months ... what about after that?" The response? "Oh, I will get a job by then".

I fully understand that some of these are getting assistance for reasons and I would fully move forward with those with absolutely no issue (had one that I was trying to help place and she actually had a job but the program was still going to pay everything... they ended up finding a cheaper apartment but thanked me for trying to help her out).

I just don't get the "I'll get the job when I need to... otherwise, they won't pay" story.

Yet ... the landlords are the bad guys... end of rant.

Brings me to another point, when those looking had S8 vouchers, they would say to us "All you have to do is call this number,blah.." nope. All you have to do is stop using my money to try to rent my bbn place. So then I can repair what you and yours break? Ot go by someone else's rules. Nope. --73.230.xxx.xx

Yeah, I don't fall for that. It's a couple of months then nothing. Many people should go live with their families and learn to get along. But they meet someone they want to be "alone" with and start looking for funding. They the LL has two incompetent people in the home. Of course there are other situations but this one would be the worst in my opinion. --108.24.xx.xx

The really sad thing is those who run these organizations think they are helping people. I'm a fairly generous person working with some benevolence organizations. One requirement I have is that organizations focus on offering a hand-up rather than a hand-out. There is a huge difference in the two. One hands out fish to feed people each day, the other teach people to fish so they will be fed for life. One creates a life of dependence and the other independence for life. One focuses on the symptoms the other on the disease that causes the symptoms.

The problem, it is really easy to handout stuff without having to get your hands dirty. Much harder to create an encouraging environment that fosters lifelong change. To do that you have to build a relationship with those you are helping. --209.205.xxx.xx

MikeA(TX) has an excellent viewpoint. We found and are supporting a local organization that is committed to helping people, but requires that they fully disclose their situations, are willing to work, and are willing to cooperate with training/counseling programs.

And yes, they build relationships. Many of their clientele goes on to assist others. --98.115.xxx.xxx

Had one tenant that was being assisted by a women's shelter. They paid her SD and first three months rent up front. The plan was to ween her off the assistance after the three months for a year.

Four months in she had a problem getting her portion. It was a struggle from then on. She would contact the company for an extension. All the while sitting on her rear end doing nothing.

They finally released her and she started getting the money on her own. Until she didn't. She is the bright shining star that didn't pay rent so she could get on another assistance program. Told me she had the money, but was holding it.

She is gone and so is my need to assist people like I have in the past. --107.147.xx.xxx

I spend my charity dollars at places where I get to limit how much I contribute. If I donate my rental, there is no limit to how much they can cost me, and very little limit on for how long they can take.

To lend a helping hand, I will lend it elsewhere and not in my houses. --76.178.xxx.xxx

The generous UI benefits here are discouraging people from going out to find a job as many employers are looking for help. Suppose in town or city no one showed up work the economy would collapse. They go to the food bank then go to a store which provides cooked meals where outside they are smoking cigarettes which could be used for food. They expect housing for nothing where in reality no matters who owns housing the costs are high. Increasing welfare benefits is not going to take out of poverty as the money is being handed when they refuse to learn a trade or upgrade schooling. The Scandinavian countries tried where 5 per cent started a business then the rest did absolutely nothing. In country that never had military conscription it was meant that if family was killed over seas the family did not suffer not a way of life that is a never ending story. --216.110.xxx.xxx
