We have a vacant rental where the neighbors keep parking inthe driveway. OBviously, the best way to fix this is get the place rents, but it's hard to get a place rented when folks are crowding into your space uninvited.

They're fairly "carefree"... 1st time I told them to move, they called me a "d*ckhead" for demanding they not park there. 2nd time I called the cops and they told them not to park there. But sure enough, as soon as I left my cleaning lady stops by to do the job and they park right behind her, blocking her in. I couldn't get over right away, so she did get out after asking them to move. But then she saw them pull right back in again after she got out and sent me a picture. I drove back over later but the car was gone, who knows where.

I've take pictures of license plates and told them next time I find a car in that driveway I'm just going to tow it, no warning. They seemed absolutely unconcerned and once again cussed me out. I'm not wanting to drive over there three times a day to check on this, so I am wondering if there's a camera I could mount in the front window that would show me if anyone is in the driveway? There's no internet service at this house, but there is good cellular service coverage. So ideally this device needs some kind of uplink to a satellite or something else that doesn't require regular home internet or a cell phone hotspot nearby. Then I could call the cops immediately when they park there and have them ticketed and/or towed.

Any thoughts or recommendations?

Sid I think you can call a tow company and get them in cahoots with you. Those drivers WANT to tow and will patrol the neighborhood trying to find something.

Find out from them what they need in order to grab the car: 1) Just your permission as owner? 2) A sign that says "No Parking blah blah blah? What exactly? And then do it.

They will take care of it. --50.82.xxx.xxx

The last 2 times I had to deal with this issue I did the following & it seemed to solve the issue.

First time I spoke with them & asked them to move their car & please not do it again.

Second time at one property, I loosen 2 of their tire's valve stems which resulted in a couple of flat tires.

Second time at another property, I used one of my extra trucks to park them in until the next day.

I think that in today's world with so many nut jobs out there I'd be inclined to make arrangements with a towing copany to place a sign on the property & just have them towed. --72.93.xxx.xx

People are inconsiderate and stupid. My own house had someone parked in the driveway when I came home 9pm at night . There was empty space on the street but they decided my driveway was a good place to check their phones.

Another time my mom went out of town and I was checking her house. Someone parked in her driveway. Again, plenty of parking on the street, and neighbors driveways weren't occupied

Police have advised me to never go in the house when strange car in driveway as a burglar could be inside. --50.4.xxx.x

I purchased a set of 4 tire jacks. You roll them under the cars tires and pump so the jack lifts the tires off of the ground and the car can be pushed in any direction.

On tenant of a 40 unit building next to mine loved to parking our driveway for hours so my tenants couldn't enter or leave.

So I pushed the offending vehicle into my rear parking area and chain their car to the Utility Poll.

I would not release the car. They would have to figure a way to reclaim it. They have to get a tow truck to spin the car 45 degrees cause there wasn't the space to drive out of that spot. And they'd need either a torch, saw or locksmith to unchain the car from the utility poll.

Towing might work.

I don't know of any camera that will work without internet service.

I wonder if you are the manager or the owner. (Not being their, I don't know there entire demeanor the first time you spoke, but...)

When they resisted the first time, how did you react? It sounds like you spoke in person.

I would have tried the approach of:

Hey, I'm the manager - I work hard(likely dirty and sweaty at the time) for my boss, just trying to make a living like you - right? Why do you want to park here? Trying to help me make it look occupied to keep squatters away? Thanks! But, if I come to show it, It doesn't work for me to get it rented so I can get Paid!! The owner will be all over me.... Just need your help to get some new good neighbors for you. --68.229.xxx.xxx

I have a cell trail camera. Doesn't take videos but does take pics and sends them to my phone.

Mine is made by Spypoint. They have 100 free pics a month or unlimited for I think $120/year.

The pics are pretty good sent to the phone and really good on the card in the camera.

I got this one because of a theft at a jobsite. Now I move it to my current rehab project. I'm happy with it. Won't see motion thru a window, but it's weatherproof. Runs on AA batteries. I found an AC adapter that works and use that when inside a place. --107.147.xx.xxx

When you use the drive pull in enough so nobody can park behind, in OH you must have a sign from towing company - I used to tell tenants at multi I have a bet the tow company will get there first. When I used to manage more there were a few car-beques but I think it was tenant-tenant wars. --76.190.xxx.xxx

On the plus side, if they have a car in the driveway, it looks like the house is occupied.

The only thing that will work is to have it posted and then tow them.

Did the last tenant have problems with them? Did the last tenant give them permission to park in the driveway? --76.178.xxx.xxx

I had someone parking in my condo's parking space in Los Angeles. I would drive in from Las Vegas to L.A. and arrive in the middle of the night to find my space occupied (and there is never street parking except right after street cleaning hours). I left polite notes to no avail, and finally had to have the car towed away. That solved the problem.

I worried about the offender vandalizing my car or my condo unit, but it did not happen. --76.4.xxx.xxx

I had this problem at one of my apartment buildings and hired a towing company. The company I hired also patrols the lot and provides me with parking stickers. After about a couple weeks of patrols and tows, everyone now knows not to park there. If your neighbors are cursing you, it's likely they will retaliate in some way. I would proceed with installing the cameras to cover yourself there, but hire the towing company and let them patrol to deal with the parking problem. I had a situation one time where the towing company was towing a car that was not supposed to be there and the violator confronted them. She raised a huge stink. The towing company wound up calling the police and still towing her car. She happened to be renting a retail spot and an apartment in the building next to mine and they didn't like me after that. I guess they thought I should have stopped the towing company, but that would have taken money from their pocket. Signs had been posted. --209.122.xx.xxx

Is there another neighbor close? Give them $20 and ask them to call your favorite tow company when they see it. Usually, the older home owners in the neighborhood don't appreciate bad behavior and would likely do it for free. --216.158.xxx.xxx
