Got myself a 3 day suspension for "unkind words". Pretty much calling someone out-not using bad words- on their constant "I need".."give me"..posts. All I said was did none of the above people come through? About 6 people offered free appliances. LL "didn't supply" fridge/air conditioner/ washer/ dryer. Poor baby. Everyone give me stuff.. Anyway, just got permanently kicked off, until I use another email/name. Why this time? I won't use my real name. MMM, pretty sure that is not a good thing. It is fine because it has turned into a Craigslist of lawn care people trying to drum up business, one sided censorship, politics, opinions and a lot of "give me give me.. I need.." site. Not what it should have been. At least the one in my undisclosed area. Yes, I stirred the pot a little but I refuse to bow down to stupidity. For those not familiar, it is supposed to be a what is happening in your area site-not an opinion/political site. Anyone else get banished? --73.230.xxx.xx

You first said 3 day suspension and then said you were permanently kicked off? Which is it?

I'm a moderator on Nextdoor and you have to do something pretty egregious to get permanently kicked off. Moderators don't suspend or ban people. Someone reported you and someone at Nextdoor looked at it and decided to suspend or ban you. Moderators just vote on whether a post should be taken down or left up.

And it is a dumpster fire. Too many people post really petty stuff and then some idiot always wants to turn it into a "Trump Fault" or "Biden's Fault". And something changed where I see stuff from greater distances and people aren't smart enough to just send their posts to their own neighborhood. I don't really care when someone two cities away didn't get their garbage picked up. --68.46.xx.xxx

First I had a 3 day. Got back on for 2 days then got banished for not using my real name. Did not say anything political or advertise. Did not use foul language. I was on for about a year before someone noticed I didn't use my real name. I truly believe some of the people who post exactly where they live and names can be in a world of trouble for those who disagree with them. In today's society, I don't believe it is wise.

I'm not familiar with the site. Is one of their rules that you use your real name? If so, then it's pretty obvious why you would be banned. If not, we're only hearing one side of the story so I cannot give any opinion. --99.92.xxx.xxx

Nextdoor is the worst. It brings out all of the ugly aspects of your neighborhood.

I'd rather not know that my nieghbors can't tell the difference between a utility worker and someone suspicious. --157.131.xxx.xx

I used it for a year. But anyway, some see the obvious scammers and others don't. It is amazing what I know now about my coworkers since they have posted under their real names. Not sure I wanted to know that one has a CPAC machine and how awful her insurance is and she needs someone to clean her house. At least she was willing to pay for it and not ask for someone to do it free. --73.230.xxx.xx

Now they allow you to use just display your first name and last initial. So I can be Larry J from my neighborhood name.

Using a fake name is a problem. You can no longer see anyone address either so you should be safe to rejoin using your real name and then just only display your last initial.

The political posts bother me. There's enough of thateverywhere else. I startedreading Next Door for pleasure. Now it's just disturbing.

Yes, MC, I have noted a couple people posting as you say, gimme, gimmee. When you look back on their posts, there is a definite pattern. Just like a you tube I saw the other day with a fellow and sign up wanting "truck parts". The video guy was a truck restorer, stoopped and gave him some parts, ased if he wanted some food (cuz they had a cooler full with them) he said no. The truck driver said he had a loading job he could pay him good money for, and the beggar said "I gotta work? No, I don't want to work!" It was reported in our Milwaukee Journal, those guys make upwards of $100,000/year. It was banned recently in one of our suburbs. People getting too aggressive. Still happens. Same duo isreported in several areas and suburbs. --75.11.xx.xx

I've never used it, but it sounds like I don't need to look into it. I won't use my real name online. In fact there used to be a pretty good real estate site that decided that everyone must use their real name and that was the last time I posted there. Too bad, because it had been useful up to that point.

There is just something about the internet that brings out the nasty in people. --76.178.xxx.xxx

I agree that it does, but I also think that, often, the anonymous-ness of it brings out more of the nasty in people. Real names often put an end to a lot of that. So I see why some sites do it. Especially something like a professional real estate site. --24.180.xxx.xx

NextDoor started out well around here - people notifying about suspicious cars, missing packages, lost pets, kid's lemonade stands. Then it began devolving into political rants, whining, etc.

I did find that you can limit what shows up in your feed to your immediate local group. That keeps us from seeing stuff from two counties away in NJ. --98.115.xxx.xxx
