How do you keep track of auto pay to various entities? --67.166.xxx.xx |

Because I autopay many of the same entities and on the same day each month, I keep aline and column pagr for each month. I call it my "checkbook" for everything. It shows all income on the top 1/4 of the page, and all payments on the bottom 3/4 of the page.
The first column to the left contains the due date, next column supplier, in my case several different credit cards, but I also add to the list tax payments due, energy bills due, etc. The next column is the amount due. I have the bills sent through the mail, given to me at the time of service, or a reminder received via email.
Once I have a page listing reoccuring bills in one column and blank spaces to write in as I receive the bills, I make 12 copies for the year. I leave a few empty lines in case there is a one off I need to add onto a page as it occurs.
It works for me. YMMV

I have to check my auto pay because my bank will accept a higher charge without notification. Like MY LOS ANGELES TIMES NEW PAPER. They raised my rate by almost 40% without notice. That's an extra $516 dollars per year. High Way Robbery!
I had to call them and try to cancel for them to put back my old rate for the next 6 months. But I don't trust them and check all of auto pays because they are put on a Credit Card, not a bank draft or Bill Pay.
I love using my American Express. I call and someone answers the phone within a minute. Then I explain my over billing. They ask if I talked with the vendor. I say yes. They ask when. I tell them I've tried for the past 30 days. Then AE will contact them, giving them between 5 to 10 days to respond. Otherwise the charges will be reversed. --47.156.xx.xx |

VMB, I also check my autopays. When a bill comes in, such as a credit card, I review it for charges made. That's where I catch mistakes such as Robert's above. It won't catch it before it is paid unless I get a bill that I review and determine is not correct. --75.11.xx.xx |

I treat autopay like any other bill: review it when it comes in and question anything that doesn't make sense.
The only function of autopay is to ensure the bill gets paid. For example, I set all auto-pay bills to pay electronically 2 business days in advance of being due so I don't forget and get hit with late fees. To me, that's really the only purpose for it: ensuring on time payment.
Autopay is not there to replace the my diligence as the payer in keeping tabs on whether or not the charges are valid. --184.4.xx.xx |
