Hey yall!
Less than two weeks until convention!
In the meantime, I have a duplex that has lovely wooden eaves. The yellow jackets carefully and consistently each summer re-build their nests under the eaves. Historically I call my pest control lady and she comes and sprays, and they return shortly thereafter, necessitating a second spray. Then, the following year, they're back.
Any ideas on how to stop them? The almost identical properties I have in the same block are unaffected by them. They are very persistent and only want to build their nests on this one! Grr!!! --107.204.x.xxx |

Rainbow Telco and Power Wasp and Ant Spray Product #88500; it is expensive but solve the problem; The spray nozzle is the key; it reaches up to 15 feet; works immediately; it stinks for awhile; --68.45.xx.xxx |

Well, in the ground, skunks, and possibly opossums, will dig out the nests and eat the larva. But, not go in the eaves! Lol!
I hang yellow jacket traps, baited with 'sweet and meat'. ( Mountain Dew and cat food, usually,) around rentals with persistent yellow jackets. It helps, but, not a cure. Wish I had better answers, especially as I've gotten attacked twice. Over twenty bites each time! Itchy for a week. --70.92.xxx.xxx |

Unless those are awfully high eves, you can reach the nest with a can of hornet spray. It will reach about 16 feet. I've been paying $5 a can, but of course, everything has doubled in cost, so I expect it to cost more this year.
All you need to do is stand back and soak the nest and it will kill all of them. I keep spraying with any sign of new activity, so that is more often than twice a year.
There isn't any way to keep them from coming back. At least on the plus side, they are concentrated in one area, so you know how to find the nest. However, they are also nesting somewhere else in the area, where they are raising a new crop of hornets every year,
To give the plus side, they are carnivores and they eat all sorts of pest bugs. --76.178.xxx.xxx |

What I generally try to do is look occasionally for new nest just starting, especially at the start of spring. Early in the morning, while it is still cool, I will take a long pole or rod and knock the small nest down and then step on the bees. If you catch the nest when they are just starting, there won't be but a small number of bees on it. After a while, sometimes they seem to give up, until the next year. --73.120.xx.xxx |

As young boys in the 60s, my cousins and I would actively seek out wasp and yellow jacket nests. Wearing only shorts and sometimes a shirt, we would pry them down with a cane pole, then swat them with badminton rackets. When we really got bold we switched to ping pong paddles.
Sometimes the wasps won. It was a great summertime activity. --158.115.xxx.xxx |

Paint the underside of the eaves as close as you can to the color of the blue sky. Did that on ours, took care of those and barn swallows. Apparently doing that fools them into thinking its open air.
If you spray a wasp nest be sure to do that at night time. They don't forage at night, all are back ensuring a complete kill. --12.88.xxx.xxx |

Totally agree with Boxcar Willie- it does work. According to tradition, it also keeps the bad spirits away- Haint Blue! --23.30.xx.xxx |

Just did a quick search of Haint Blue. That is really interesting, and sounds like a perfect solution. And, of course, Sherwin Williams has a color called Haint Blue.
I've been trying to figure out which color scheme to go with, as my four little house currently have four different color schemes. Think I maybe should just go with one the best goes with Haint Blue eaves, lol! --70.92.xxx.xxx |
