Overly dramatic grown daughter (on disability) of tenant (they are both on the lease) has spotted "concerningly large" woodchucks going under the porch.
Mother hasn't seen them because she is WORKING! I responded "thanks for the update"
Outside of charging her a pet fee, WWYD? --72.231.xxx.xx |

I’d refer them to the “pests” section of the lease and go about my day. --50.202.xxx.xx |

They are likely feeding on some mini-flowers, the sad part of this is even when they vacate the tunnels left behind are where rats then snakes and mice follow thru living in those places. I would find a way to deter the digging by pouring mortar into any holes you can see. --76.190.xxx.xxx |

You should thank them for letting you know. I had woodchucks under my porch when I moved in and they dug into the foundation. I spent time discouraging them and caving in their dens. When I rebuilt my porch I put wire mesh on the ground so they couldn't dig. They are a real nuisance by me. I call the large ones land seals because they sit on the sidewalk basking in the sun and don't flinch when you come near. The young ones scatter. Last year was the first time one got in my fenced veggie box. I looked at the video. It took a running start and jumped over the 3' wire enclosure and mowed everything down in less than ten minutes. --24.194.xxx.xx |

Find a way to get rid of them now. Groundhogs are tough to catch at times. They are wary of everything.
I use a live trap. Bait it with something not in the area, like an apple if none around.
Don't wait until it pops out a litter. Then you are in for a wild ride.
I tell my tenants to watch the live trap and reset or re-bait as needed. Then when one is caught I come pick it up. Sometimes they ask what I will do with them, but most times they don't.
I would not dump mortar in the hole until after you catch it (them) and don't have activity for a while. Otherwise they will dig more holes and then you have more mess to contend with.
You can put a conibear trap over the hole, but I always worry that the kids or the neighbors cat will get in there. Just more fuss than I want so I catch and feed them a lead pill off site.
No worries, just time and frustration. I have one currently at a place. I took a trap over but it wasn't big enough. This is a cow. --107.147.xx.xxx |

Live trap for safety of cats and kids then drown it,i would want it out from under my porch so it doesnt wreck my foundation. I grew up on a farm and for every woodchuck i trapped my dad bought me an ice cream cone,i did pretty well at it. --74.77.xx.xx |

There you go... Offer the tenant an ice cream cone for each chipmunk they catch! Solved. --172.56.xx.xxx |

Ditto the others--this is a nuisance that will damage your property. We had some that chewed through a wooden fence, decimated the landscaping, and dug under the foundation footing.
The good news is that they're pretty easy to catch. Look for where they've worn paths and put the traps there. Ours were living under the deck, so I blocked off all exits except one, and put a trap in front of it. I moved it periodically to a different spot in the yard. Didn't bother baiting it. In two months I caught seven groundhogs, a skunk, and the neighbor's cat.
Unfortunately, they're rodents and breed like them. I swung by a year later, after we'd sold the house, and they were back! --172.58.xxx.xx |

I have them under my porch. They don't seem to harm it. They did push some dirt onto my cellar door and someone will have to remove it for me. Can't dig anymore and as a gardener, that's tough. They eat some cat food and weeds and leave the rest alone although I can't keep sunflowers growing as they eat them right down.

Poor groundhogs.
They have to have somewhere to live too. They are part of the eco system.
I haven't had any luck trapping them, but I did get an opossum once and a cat. That cat was not happy, but I guess it liked the cupcake.
I can call the city animal control here and they will lend a trap. If I actually catch one, they will relocate the furry critter.
I wonder if I can pet one if I ever caught it? Probably not a good idea. --73.120.xx.xxx |

6x6 do not try to pet it,it is not Phil.Cupcake? set a leghold trap right in the path, they are not smart so you dont need bait in that case unless you are concerned about catching a neighbors cat,if you are try a hav a hart trap and try maybe lettuce or a carrot --74.77.xx.xx |

Ken, I have tried vegetables and apples before and I still can't seem to catch one. I think I might have caught one at the rental this last time, but I think someone let it out as the back door was unlatched and raised about half way up.
I tried the cupcakes because they were in the trash and I thought the groundhogs might like sweets?
Something was eating the apples and stuff but nothing was getting trapped?
I don't live there and the house was vacant so I couldn't watch it.
I was kidding about petting it, well, sort of. --73.120.xx.xxx |

You can always put up a game camera and see what is actually there, they are cheap and fun.If you are not worried about catching a cat get a size 1 1/2 trap and dig out a little hole right by the entrance just big enough for the trap to set in the hole level with the ground and you should be able to catch it --74.77.xx.xx |
