Just taking a moment to reflect on some nice things (for a change).

Maybe balance out the "spooky" Friday 13th. LOL

I try to look on the bright side / find a silver lining whenever possible.

The scanner part of my printer/scanner/copier isn't working.

>I just came from Office Depot where they scanned a stack of papers onto a flash drive, and DIDN'T CHARGE ME!

>A short time back, I went to the police station to get a copy of the police report from when the person barrel-rolled her car through my fence & into the back yard. Was supposed to cost $10, but she handed it to me and said "have a nice day!" No charge.

Help me out - surely you have had someone do something nice for you.

Back when I was a kid, my mother never worked and was divorced. We were poor, to say the least. At Christmas time, on a few years, the church would bring a food basket and someone would bring toys for my sister and I ( I wish I could talk to her now ). That was always a bright side to us kids.

Went over to a rental to ( finally! ) install the through the wall A/C, and two good things came out of the visits:

1. I knew that a couple of the window miniblinds were getting broken slats. Needed to set some time to repair them ( yep, I do that on the corded blinds.) Well, tenant had replaced them all with new cordless blinds. Perfectly installed.

2. My husband and I worked very well together. Only once or twice did we get snarly. That's a record! Most things on my rentals I do myself, but cutting a hole in the side of a house still isn't in my comfort zone, and no way can I lift that unit by myself. That we were patient with each other- miracle!

My newest tenant called just to see how I was doing. She has a refreshing spirit and is always kind. It was good catching up on happenings in our lives.

Never had children, but I take joy in listening to the young men tell me about the new girlfriend that they think is "the one". Then following their journey, celebrating their engagements, weddings and buying their first home together.

I take joy in hearing from many of them during the holidays. One who lived downstairs from us stopped in from out west with their new baby. Their Christmas card envelope stamp was a picture of the baby's face!

I take joy in unexpected hugs. A young tenant had just gotten engaged and told me in the kitchen where she rented. I congratulated her, wished her the best, and not to let him give her any guff, when all of a sudden she gave me the biggest hug.

My early 90's mother-in-law managed to mess up her Windows computer. AGAIN. After spending a couple of hours, first trying to get some information from her about what happened (like trying to nail Jello to a wall), then trying various solutions, we took the tower to a nearby Staples' tech desk.

The pleasant young geek had the issue resolved and the computer back to normal in under 10 minutes. When we asked what we owed him, he said, "Oh that only took like five minutes. No charge!"
