Ot a billion? (by Hollis [MA]) Posted on: May 11, 2022 7:40 AM

It doesn't seem that long ago that John P. Getty was the only billionaire

The government seems to spend billions on so many things now.

Hard to rap your head around what a billion dollars means. One encyclopedia said if you lined up a billion dollars end to end,..it would stretch out 2 million miles,...PAST THE SUN. (approximately 96 million miles)

Some might think its a lot of money...... --66.30.xx.xxx

I remember watching a quiz show game on TV back in the 1980s and the question was, "How much money does the federal government spend in a day?" I don't remember all of the choices, but the correct answer was $2 billion. Looking at records for 1985, even that was a bit low... $935 billion or about $3 billion per day.

I look at it this way: If I spent $1000 per minute every minute of my life, 24/7, no breaks for sleeping, eating, taking a bath, etc... it would take me almost 3 years to spend all of it.

What the heck would I do: play high stakes slot machines? Sheesh...

That said, the size of Govt is huge. Millions of people on the payroll, and tens of millions on the doll. It all adds up.

Hollis: May want to upgrade your encyclopedia (or your memory!). :)

1 billion dollar bills end-to-end wouldn't even be 100,000 miles. You're thinking of 1 TRILLION dollars -- which is what it takes to make it to the sun. :)

Arrrghh John you are right,..in checking a billion dollars end to end can go about 31/2 half times around the earth,..a billion pennies stacked up is said to go nearly 1000 miles high,..

Still a lot O money but not the amount first stated,..

Thank you, --66.30.xx.xxx

So, leave a billion dollar legacy for your grandkids!

lol MMIT. perhaps in nominal terms but value of $1 decreases on average 20x over 100 years (based on historical valuations)…I would still like to be a billionaire in nominal terms though….. --107.77.xxx.xxx

MMIT: I'm curious what numbers you are running there. How much are you figuring for the income for those 15 rentals (since it varies quite a bit by location)? Are you also assuming that they are all paid off?

Just for fun, I figured $500 income per rental. So, that would be $7500 per month added to this investment. At 8%, it would be under $100,000,000 after 57 years. Don't get me wrong, $100MM would be plenty for me, but not quite a billion. :) So, I was just wondering what you're figuring for average income from a Class C rental.

Or were you thinking you'd get a lot more than 8% maybe? 10% for 57 years gets you to just over $200MM, at least...
