State Specific Question About: ILLINOIS (IL)

I’ve been before the judge 3 times for an eviction (having paid the sheriff’s department to process serve the court summons, but no luck). The judge implied they made attempting to evade by now. He said I could get an alternative process server (“anyone over the age of 18” but didn’t elaborate. Note: we don’t have licensed private servers nearby, exceep at a steep cost. --174.62.xxx.xxx

In my state anyone over 18 who is not the owner of the house is allowed to do the service as long as it is done properly and fill out the form and have it notarized, ask the court clerk for the process, they may tell you what to do.I have served a lot of evictions for friends and been paid to do some also. --74.77.xx.xx

I can't get the Sheriff to serve the City, Housing, Rent Control or any other governmental agency. So I use a State Licensed Process Server. They charge around $100 and will make 3 in person attempts before doing a Post and Serve.

I believe the judge is suggesting you get more creative and don't send anyone in a uniform.

Example: If you know someone who delivers pizza (or grub-hub, or door dash, etc),

send them some food. Instruct the delivery person to ask," are you John Smith?", then give them the notice with the pizza. Even better between 2 of them, so the delivery person can get away before the Tenant finds it. Then have the delivery person sign an affidavit of delivery. --71.82.xxx.xxx
