WWYD? My 10+ yr old Kitchenaid stand mixer has died; more specifically the planetary fell off. Hubby who is very good at fixing things, and found out you can't just "order a part" anymore says to trash it and buy a new one (possibly a Cuisinart since KA is so pricey)

I called a repair shop about 40 min away and they said it would be in the neighborhood of $125 and up. --72.231.xxx.xx

You have my permission to buy a new one. Maybe sell the old one for some one to have parts or take to metal recycling. --172.58.xxx.xxx

I could probably sell the accessories and then scrap it myself. Sorry to see it go. --72.231.xxx.xx

if you have the accessories it may be worth it to get a beefier kitchen aid mixer. my 300 series wobbles when I do dough. have had my eye on the 600 series, but now the proline has a real motor supposedly. I have the spiralizer attachment, which got a lot of use at one time, but I forget it's in the drawer.

maybe fb or an estate sale is your friend for an affordable replacement. --172.58.xxx.xxx

For $125 get it fixed. I think the new ones, if you can get one are $300. This one would be solid compared to a new one. I got one at a garage sale but never used it. I still have a hand mixer from the 60s and a newer one. If you make bread then it got a lot of use. A lot of folks passed untimely due to grifting so maybe there is one for sale used. See OAN tonight. --108.24.xx.xx

Look on marketplace for your area, thrift stores, or put a wanted ad on local online sites. Maybe hit estate sales. --75.7.xx.xx

Ten years is probably as good a life as you are going to get out of any electric appliance.

If you have accessories for it that you use, it would make the most sense to buy another one that will fit the accessories. --76.178.xxx.xxx

Double check your model and see if it's a good one worth repairing, or if it's a meh one better off replacing.

My mom had a midcentury one that finally gave up. When they were looking for replacement parts, to decide whether to keep or dispose, the guy told them it was one of the best models KitchenAid ever made.

DH brought me back a Sunbeam Mixmaster from an estate sale. Generally, I prefer my KitchenAid handmixer, although I'm probably on my third or fourth one. Two of them broke when someone dropped them... so maybe relying on a countertop model of some sort would be better after all. :) --107.77.xxx.xxx

If you can find one in an estate sale that is before 1990 or so, buy it. The ones about 10 years old have too much plastic inside them to ever use them for anything but cakes and cookies.

If you make much dough, but a Bosch. That is what all the Homeschool Moms and Mormans I know have. --149.76.xxx.xx
