Can't make this up.
Today's headline:
Police: Man Killed Emotional Support Ferrets
(Smoking Gun news)
'A Minnesota man charged with killing his roommate’s emotional support ferrets told police that he shot the caged animals with a BB gun because they “smell like sh*t” and claimed that one of the ferrets was laughing at him, according to a court complaint.'
There is more but you get the idea.

Now the roommate will need DOUBLE emotional support!
Let the comments begin!

Well, they do smell like _____. But laughing at him? Hmm. Sounds like meth or a bad acid trip? --24.152.xxx.xx |

I do not even know what a ferret is. Does it look like a squirrel? It is tame? How does a ferret give someone emotional support? I need someone to bring me into the 21st century on ESA animals. --71.207.xxx.x |

I don't know how he lived with them as a roommate. the smell is horrible. if they stayed caged the stench might have stayed contained. I recovered a unit long time ago from tenant that let them roam the apt. you could still catch a waft of odor a couple years later if you knew what the smell was.

My best friend from high school had them. Not smelly at all. Sweet, docile creatures. But, my friends' house was clean, and I'm sure the cages were cleaned daily. Oh, and she bred them, sold babies off to pet stores. So, if anytime would be smelly just because, one would think that with a bunch of kits, that would be the time.
So, yeah, hygiene. Of the human endeavors. Pets cant empty their own cages. --70.92.xxx.xxx |

Roy, a ferret is a member of the weasel family. They are carnivores and carnivores all stink if they aren't kept clean.
Ferrets make great pets. They are smart and affectionate, but they require a great deal of care, bathing and cleaning their litter box often. They are a lot more work than a cat. Because I don't trust tenants to take proper care of their pets, I don't allow them in my rentals. --76.178.xxx.xxx |

If both of those tenants thought that the ferrets were laughing at them, then they qualified for an ESA because of a mental disability.
I suspect that it has more to do with drug use. I hope the landlord can get them both out. --76.178.xxx.xxx |

Note to self, if you want to qualify for an ESA, claim that an animal was laughing at you.
I think I saw a pig laughing at me the other day.
Poor ferrets! Had to put up with those 2 humans keeping them in a cage. --73.120.xx.xxx |

One tenant years ago had a ferret. Picture long skinny cat with a rat face. I took care of it for a week when he went to Israel. Yeah. Poor thing was locked in a cage. They find a place where they can poop privately and fill that place up which is why there is a stink. Over the years they probably fill up several places in an apartment. The tenant was the sone of some "nice" people who dumping him in my unit. He had a job which ended at 2 am when he would make trouble. Parents got him out of there after he locked himself out at 2AM and broke the door window to get in had to call ambulance for cuts and police made me come down there at 4AM to clean up the blood. But they did give me some rubber gloves. When I taught in Boston in the 60s they somehow lived on the same street and I remember seeing them there, Shirley Ave. in Revere. --108.24.xx.xx |

I had a recent applicant, while I advertise "no pets", they tried to convince me it was a small little thing in a cage. I passed on this application, and so glad I did, as I received a nasty message from them the next day. It is "all business" for me. --172.58.xxx.xxx |

Ferrets are part of the weasel family.
An unneutered ferret will also have a stronger smell due to certain hormones. After that, dirty ears, bathing too often, and not keeping their living space and bedding clean are big contributors to ferret smell. While some of the odor can be controlled with certain tactical maneuvers, keep in mind that there will almost always be at least a little animal scent associated with your ferret. --74.105.xxx.xxx |

Ferrets belong to the Mustelid family, all members of which have scent glands. The most notable member is the skunk. Would you allow a pet skunk in your unit? Ferrets also produce strong scents, regardless of how clean you keep their cage. --70.128.xxx.xxx |
