There has been many discussion's about Section 8, assistance programs, etc. and it made me remember when an official went house to house in a suburb of Detroit years ago.
Assistance was at an all-time high, with single Mothers raising children alone, supposedly, because there was a BF living in the dwelling who worked, that was always denied.
The official asked the woman if the Government would pay them a sum of $10,000.00 if they would become married so the State could stop their assistance. I believe the percentage was about 95% said yes. The next question was if they planned to stay married and the answer was "No". So, it was proven that the system is being taken advantage of, but nothing could be proved concerning the BF.
Not much has changed has it. Does anyone else remember this situation being in the news back then?

I do not remember that offer. I'm not surprised of the outcome. --172.58.xxx.xxx |

Tony,
I do not recall the year, but it appeared on the news and after one day the news shut it down. I just recall it was over 20 years ago or so.
The social workers know that if there are no deadbeats receiving assistance their jobs will be fewer, so even though the social workers know about the BF they choose to ignore it or their clients disappear.
Sorry I cannot exactly recall the time. --67.22.x.x |
