When the federal was decided in the supreme court then lower need to follow right now instead of waiting another year to end. If the federal is not constitutional then why is the municipal not being taken to court. Imagine if the grocery stores were forced to supply free food for the people who think groceries should be free then a week later the grocery store would close down then workers who worked there would be out of job. --68.69.xxx.xxx |

Robert, because the wheels have been set in motion. The governors led the sheep into the abyss. Then they ended the original restrictions in an open ended and unclear way. Then in true political fashion, they slithered out of the spotlight. Now you have mayors, city councils, municipalities, county leaders, colleges, school boards, cruise ships, airlines, and other corporations all interpreting this in their own way. No one is in charge and no one know the clear way forward. Instead of instantly following the governor back out of the chaos, the petty tyrant syndrome kicks in and here we are. With a 4-1 vote, the Board adopted the first two phases of the recommended phaseout plan (Resolution), which extends some of the County's emergency residential tenant protections. Supervisor Barger moved a motion for the treasurer tax collector to report back in 14 days to see if it is feasible to forgive and/or postpone property tax payments for landlords who haven't received rent.
This Resolution applies to all unincorporated areas of the County & applies to incorporated cities within the County of Los Angeles. Incorporated cities within the County can impose, or continue imposing, greater local protections than are imposed by this Resolution.
Per the Resolution:
EVICTIONS. No landlord shall evict a Tenant as follows (Protections for Commercial tenants expire on Jan. 31,2022):
Non-payment of rent
No-fault termination of tenancy or occupancy
Owner move-ins (conditions apply)
Nuisance or unauthorized occupants or pets
Denial of entry (conditions apply)
REPAYMENT OF RENT.
Unpaid rent from April 1-May 31, 2022, Tenant has until May 31,2023 to repay arrears.
Tenant(s) whose household income is d 80% Area Median Income (AMI) that misses rent through Dec. 31, 2022 (unless extended further) shall have twelve (12) months thereafter to repay arrears.
RENT INCREASES. Landlords can't raise rent in unincorporated County during protections period.

So, in other words, rent to anyone and everyone, but don't expect any rent money now or in the future, and you can't kick them out for almost any reason.
What's wrong with that plan?
So, why are people fleeing CA if they can live for free, for life, apparently.
Note to self, if you move to CA, be a renter, not a LL.
