Followup on wire fraud. In October PNC bank allowed 6 fraudulent wire transfers to happen in my and my mother's checking accounts which I manage for her. The first two transactions were 7155 in then 7250 out of my checking which I was told was money laundering. Then 2 wires out of my checking and two wires out of my mothers. Total 20K out. On October 13, 10K was transferred from my mother's savings to her checking and then 10K from her savings to my checking. They did not get to take that money though because on October 14 PNC(Finally) halted an attempt to transfer 7,500 out of mother's checking and I froze the accounts.
The thieves used my online banking ID and pass to do the damage. For some reason PNC never sent any notices while all this happened and I usually get email notices on every little thing. They called me on the 14th which means they have my number as well as my email.
During the week this all occurred 10/7-10/14, PNC was merging with BBVA bank and supposedly online banking was down the days I lost my money 10/12 and 10/13. Interestingly, I am not the only one who experienced ID theft during the merger.
According to federal law, USCode 1693(Consumer Protection for unauthorized electronic transfers) and Federal reserve Regulation E, they had 10 days to refund my and my mothers losses. However, banks force customers to go through arbitration and a law to forbid this was defeated in Congress in 2017.
The end result was PNC did nothing. They investigated the 4 wires out which went to a N Rashid(3) and an Isabel Leon. I then requested they investigate the money laundering.

An executive client representative finally called last Friday and told me with great glee that the money laundering out was transferred to MY Bank of America account opened in Arizona in October. Therefore they have nailed me and there will be no refund. They refused to send me this report like they did with the other 4 transactions.
I don't have an account with BoA and I've never been to Arizona. All three credit agency reports are clean and I am waiting on CHEX Survey. Credit reports are on hold and I have a 7 year freeze in place. BoA would not even talk to me. I have accounts with 4 other institutions which were never touched.
I have called about 25 lawyers, who all refused to deal with me. Got an interview with a young lawyer in a big firm finally and he sounded gung ho. Then sent a Denial of Representation form to me. You can't sue banks...so no money in it. I did file with the Consumer Financial Protection Agency which oversees banks and have an open case there.
I sent a letter of demand to local branch and main office by certified mail, so as a last resort I will try to get the maximum allowed Small Claims Court amount for myself and my mother.
A nightmare and PNC is a rotten bank who cares not if they are breaking the law. 20 years as a customer and I am treated like a turd. I am holding a small amount of money there so I remain a customer and I have been going in weekly to deposit very small amounts and having the manager notarize for me. I like to look in her eyes. --216.23.xxx.xx |

That is so sad, and frustrating. I was mad because as I walked into Lowes this last Tuesday I got an email about my Amex possibly being hacked.
Called and hopped thru all the hoops to get it resolved and a new set of cards shipped out.
But this was only for just under $50.
I can't imagine that kind of loss and then that lack of customer service. --107.147.xx.xxx |

An inside job. I have an account in one of the banks you mentioned and that's scary. I don't do online banking with them and will make sure I do not. One of them around here shut all their offices down during covid. Isn't there some federal office that will look into this for you? --108.24.xx.xx |

That is really sad. Has everyone noticed where the small person stands in the line to be treated fairly?
Scammers are everywhere. Institutions holding your money could care less about you despite their advertising and the lies coming from them about "how they care".
If we have to deal with them, and most of us do, use several, keep amounts really low, check often for fraud.
I think we are going to see "bail-in's" soon where they just take your money (with govt approval).
You know, there is a reason many tenants refuse to have a bank account. I'd say, apart from their poor money skills, they know from experience their money is not safe there. They remember their parents and grandparents advice from the depression.
We are facing a new problem now, the unbelievable debt load of the country, which cannot be paid. We are looking at stagflation. It's only a matter of time. If you are not careful, your money is going to go away. --75.7.xx.xx |

Someone applied for a loan around $50,000 in my name. Luckily it was denied, but it's on my credit report doing damage.
Use to have PNC, didn't like them one bit. Wouldn't let me withdraw money when I decided to close my accounts.
Wish I knew how to help.
One thing we are not doing is financial transactions on our phones. I've heard these scam calls have a way of getting information off your phone. We get these calls all the time. I don't answer calls I don't have programmed in my phones.
Keep us posted. --75.11.xx.xx |

Contact your Attorney General. This is terrible. I feel so bad for your mom and the whole situation. Keep after them. Maybe you can control that account in AZ. --172.58.xxx.xxx |

If you have any concerns about the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) evolution being forged into this country's major banks, you might want to get out of PNC. --73.40.xxx.xx |

Lana, that stinks! Some other suggestions are:
1. (Worked for me with Wells Fargo)Politely threaten to the next human who gives you the runaround that you will take your case to social media - then do so if nothing changes. Big companies hate when stories go big on social media. Wells Fargo suddenly had a "supervisor" resolve the problem for me when I said those magic words.
2. If you live near a city that has a tv station with a Consumer Reporter, contact them with your story. A Philadelphia station pretty much shames companies into responding by putting the issue up on the evening news.
So sorry that you have gotten stuck with this! --98.115.xxx.xxx |

FDIC isn't that Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation or ? Try there first and if it's not their job they should know whose job it is. --108.24.xx.xx |

FDIC is for bank bankruptcy. Most banks have fraud insurance though. PNC just got my complaint from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and another client rep is calling me next week. Thanks all --216.23.xxx.xx |
