Just a tip that someone might find useful.
I had an issue once with a new roof. The permit paperwork is posted on the house and left there for the inspectors to sign off on until the final inspection is received it must remain there.
I once had a non English speaking tenant remove it not knowing why it was there. The city attempted to fine me because my permit was not posted as required. I explained the situation, that it was a rental, and the tenant did not speak English and could not read it and did not know it was not to be removed. They agreed to waive the fine.
I guess I should have learned my lesson and sort of did because I make sure all non native English speakers know this now.
Well it just happened again. And it’s a $70 fine according to my roofer for not having the permit posted. The English-speaking tenant’s school-age daughter not knowing what it was, removed it when she came home from school. So they would not complete the inspection because the permit was not posted.
It’s little things like this that you never even imagine happening that are apparently important to know about. I blame myself for failing to stress to the tenant the importance of not touching the permit. I will not make that mistake again.

Thanks for the tip. I just had a roof replaced in one of my houses and thankfully the permit was left undisturbed by the tenant. Glad to know about this. Thanks --99.106.xx.xx |

Time to amend your lease immediately to make sure that the tenant is responsible for these fines and any other charges that they cause.
Also, be careful that your state does not require you to have the lease in their preferred language.
I can just see a judge, especially if this judge is the same as them, saying your lease is void because it is not in their preferred language. --75.7.xx.xx |

Get "do not remove" translated to spanish . Save on your computer. Print a large Avery Label with Spanish and English and stick it on your permit board. Whenever you have permitted work done, print a new one out and apply to permit board. --152.97.xxx.xxx |

did you change the roof angles or something? --99.103.xxx.xxx |

Good tip, thank you. Besides permits the City wants us to post notices about cancer causing materials in the building materials of older buildings. The owners name, address and phone number. The rent registration certificate, etc.
People take down that information and use it for their own means. Solicitation, theft, slip and fall and other nefarious things. So I give the information to all of the tenants of the property and post limited information on the building -- between two Plexiglas sheets with caps over the edges to keep it water proof. --47.155.xx.xxx |

Anytime work is performed on a building here a permit must be applied and paid for, except if the property is zoned agricultural, whereas farmers do not need a permit.
Even after given an occupancy permit our county states if you replace your water heater, furnace or even your deck boards a permit is needed. And, of course, it needs to be posted in plain site, as stated. --67.22.x.x |
