Wondered if anyone has any landlord stories regarding use of stains
or oil base base paints in your buildings? Our lease prohibits it.
When I worked at a graphics firm (before technology converted all work to comuputers) that took up a whole basement floor, someone was painting in an area that must have had a flame. The fumes permeated the air; spontaneous combustion occured sending 2 co-workers and the company president to the hospital. The company lost alot of customers artwork and film collections.
I told a tenant who said she was going to stain some wood in the basement this weekend what happened and not to do it because of the gas water heater and furnace flames, especially in the winter when they are on more often. She's 39 years old, and said "then where can I do it?" and that maybe she would do a small piece at a time. Really??? I think she was trying to get me to agree to some way she could do it. I'm emailing her a copy of the section of the lease prohibiting toxic/flammable, irritating odors. At least I'll have it in the file if she does it anyway. Any other ideas?
