As an older not so computer savy person, I want to hire someone to set up a website. Anyone have a recommendation as to either an online service or someone in the NE PA area.

I could describe myself the same way.
I've managed to build quite a nice website with weebly
You can try it for free and see how easy it is, before throwing in the towel & paying someone to do it. --68.229.xxx.xxx |

I second weebly. It's a little clunky to get it to do what you want but for the most part it is click and drag and then once it is set up you are not really changing much - just places available and maybe changing the forms you uploaded for people to download. --65.188.xxx.xxx |

Remember that there are two aspects to this.
The first aspect is to get a website that's functional and attractive for your needs. That cost is going to range from "free" to "pricey" depending on what you want.
The second aspect is to get a website that you are capable of maintaining and keeping updated with the most current information.
If you're reliant on someone else to update it for you, your website is going to end up in the "very pricey" column. So, whatever path you take, make sure you have a plan for at least acquiring the skills to keep it updated, and the understanding of how the different files work together in order to give the appearance of a page, even if you're not relying on your own in-house skills for the original creation and design from scratch. --137.118.xx.xxx |

Mike - I obviously can't recommend anyone around there as I live in the flatlands and not close to you. I would also recommend weebly. In my prior career, I was in IT. I find weebly very easy to use and very user friendly.
I also understand not knowing about certain aspects and no desire to learn. I have a few things I will hire out even though it's an easy job. If this is what you are more looking for, I have a few suggestions. Call the local college or tech school IT office. If your area does not have either, call the local High School (yes, seriously) and talk to a counselor. Any of those places will be able to set you up with a student that knows what they are doing and can get a simple website whipped out pretty quick. If one of those guys uses a website service (such as weebly), then it would make maintenance of this website easy for any future student you hire as well.
Good luck to you in whatever route you proceed!

Also, remember, from a control point of view, you don't want one entity to have possession of "your" stuff to the point where you can't access it.
So for your domain name-- make sure you register it directly yourself. When the time comes for renewal, you want to renew it, rather than being dependent on someone else, especially if you no longer have a business relationship together. This is going to be MikesPAHouses.com or whatever address you choose. This is going to be an annual fee, unless you're using a free subdomain somewhere else.
Then there's your webhost. This is going to be a server where your files are hosted so that people have an active website to look at when they view your address. Don't make your webhost and your registrar the same entity. Go with a smaller, mom-and-pop webhost with good customer service, especially if you're expecting to need a little help on the back end of things in the future. This will be a monthly or quarterly fee, unless you're on a free hosting site that gets its revenue from ads.
Then there's your web designer. This is going to be the person who assembles the files in the first place so that visitors to your website will see something attractive when they type in your address. You definitely don't want a one-stop-shop, in case this person (goes out of business) (falls off the planet) (is reliable at first but doesn't prioritize you later) (etc). --137.118.xx.xxx |

I use Zehr Design out of Sayre. If you Google them, add the city otherwise you get a bunch of different Zehr Designs. --174.198.xx.xx |

I use weebly. Its easy to use. Not worth hiring a website designer.
If Jeffery will let us, maybe we can do a post of our websites without the filter dinging us. Give people ideas on how to improve or design their sites. Thoughts Jeffery? --76.77.xxx.xxx |

T, anyone can post the URL to your website address on this forum. Just do not include "http" at the beginning of the URL address. --72.214.xx.xx |

It depends. I’m a marketing director for a property management company with 12,000+ units. Are you using the website for applications, payments, work orders, or re you just using it for branding and contact information? --174.70.xx.xxx |
