In Los Angeles we have to have Fire Extinguishers inspected every year and new tags placed on them for rental properties. Then every 5 years they have to be hydro tested.
I can either have a company come out and conduct the service or bring them into their shop for service. I just can't remove them from one building and leave the tenants without a replacement. So I have extras.
Extinguishers have size and ratings, A, B and C. Depending on what materials they are trying to put out the flames. Paper, wood, fluids, oils, etc.
The junk we buy from a big box store have plastic tubes that go down into the body of the extinguisher and can break off easily. I only get the commercial with metal parts, they last longer.
I do not buy used equipment. Why? Because if they fail to work, I take on extra liability.
